The day after…the opening of ‘We Who Have Known Tides’ curated by @camilleusher is up and running at @vanartgallery until April 12th of 26.
My work in the show ‘Water Wings for the Big Waves’ and ‘Recording Pictographs Under Water’ joins a truly magical group of artists (many of them my heroes and some friends who are heroes). Thanks to everyone who came out and to those who will check it out in the future. 🌊 🌊 🌊 👋🏼

(Haboolm Ksinaalgat) SOUL CATCHER.
Sneak peek 👀 at our new Ts’msyen stop motion animation that’s about to be born. 💕
The legendary Tantoo Cardinal @tantoo.cardinal stars as Gyilak’yoo (Robin) - a supernatural being & ancient Ts’msyen swansgm halaayt (blowing shaman). She is a matriarch and chief, who has become a halaayt (ha-LIGHT) through transcending great trials and difficulties. She has learned to achieve higher states of consciousness and travel to non-human dimensions, where she retrieves the lost souls of the suffering ones and blows them back into the sick using her haboolm ksinaalgat (soul catcher) amulet.
For nearly 4 years, we have been quietly and carefully developing a really personal and special story, one that we have been so deeply honoured to be trusted with and invited into the process. Based on a masterful and personal story by Ts’msyen storyteller Pamela Post @pamelapostmedia . We are guided by her community and honoured to have the Ts’msyen talents of Phil Gray @phil_gray_art guiding us along with culture and language guidance from Sm Łoodm ‘Nüüsm, Dr. Mique’l Dangeli @miqueldangeli & other Ts’msyen mentors & artists.
A dream team of collaborators, creators and those who care so much to tell stories ethically and push for cinematic excellence in animation. @patrickzung @norrogers and Standing Figure @standing.figure you have once again created authentic magic. Powerful Art Direction by Lia Fabre Dimsdale.
Based on a true story, (Haboolm Ksinaalgat) Soul Catcher is the story of Lu’oo’ya (Echo), a gender fluid Ts’msyen youth and reluctant apprentice to the ancient female Halaayt (Shaman), named Gyilak’yoo (Robin). Along with Gaax the Raven, the trio go on a time-and-shape-shifting supernatural mission to reclaim the powers of the Shaman’s stolen Soul Catcher amulet and rescue a pts’aan (totem pole) from the bottom of the Ksyen (Skeena River) where it has been sleeping for over a century
Keep your head down, away from the fluff and do the good work. That is all we can do. <3Wayi Wah! (Let’s do this!). #stopmotion #stopmotionanimation #soulcatcher #wayiwah #ts’msyen #pamelapost #puppets #tantoo #gyilak’yoo

Some photos from the quick rip to NY. It was a 24 hour trip to get there, with an unexpected pit stop in Billings, Montana due to storm/turbulence. Big storm getting out of the city too. ⚡️⛈️☔️ ✈️ I had to sleep in my car at the Ferry terminal on the way back due to waiting out the weather. Still recovering it feels like.
If you are in New York for the next year or so our show ‘Shaping the Future through Tradition,’ curated by @michael_bourquin at the @amnh is up in the Northwest Coast Hall.
Headshot courtesy of Alvaro Keding/©AMNH.
I was gifted this beautiful copper from @the_house_of_copper It’s heavy duty healing on the chest.
I also spent some time in the vaults and spent some brief moments with this unreal transformation mask. I wished I could slow down time and pause it and fly away.

In our latest MOA story, interdisciplinary artist, Bracken Hanuse Corlett (Wuikinuxv/Klahoose), visits with and responds artistically to the recent MOA exhibition To Be Seen, To Be Heard: First Nations in Public Spaces, 1900-1965 as part of the Archive/Counter-Archive Project.
Archive/Counter-Archive (@counterarchive) is a project and research network dedicated to activating and preserving audiovisual archives created by Indigenous Peoples (First Nations, Métis, Inuit), Black communities and People of Colour, women, LGBT2Q+ and immigrant communities. Political, resistant, and community-based, counter-archives disrupt conventional narratives and enrich our histories. Established in 2018 through a Social Science and Humanities Partnership Grant, the network—in which MOA is a partner—is committed to finding new ways to activate, preserve and restore Canada’s diverse moving image heritage.

Grateful to know this friend and ally Nabil. @nabi_d24
He is a strong human and he carries ethics, care and kindness wherever he goes. Today we met at the Pier with a small group of folks standing against the genocide happening in Palestine.
Even with everything that is going on Nabs has been a steady and patient voice, who has helped me wade through the “complexities” and mischaracterizations you may face when standing against genocide, occupation and ideologies guided by fear and violence.
We will be collaborating on something soon to raise awareness and send some funds to those in need.
