Sunk City Festival (@sunkcitynanaimo) returns to Nanaimo this May long weekend!
Taking place from May 15-17 in downtown Nanaimo, Sunk City Festival showcases underground music while celebrating local talent and shared community spaces.
Hosted across multiple venues on the unceded lands of the Snuneymuxw Nation, the festival highlights the depth of the region’s creative scene, with food, beverages and artist merchandise available on site.

B.C. talent is Cannes-bound! From May 12-20, 2026, British Columbia delegates will attend the Marché du Film at The 79th Cannes Film Festival @marchedufilm.
Nine delegates received support to attend through Creative BC’s Passports to Markets program, championing cinematic excellence, expanding B.C.’s global talent, and celebrating this year’s most compelling films.
📅 On May 15, at the Canada Pavilion, there will be a panel titled “Create With Canada,” featuring Creative BC’s CEO, Prem Gill, as a panelist for the first Info Session. Moderated by @telefilm_canada, the sessions will provide professionals with the opportunity to meet and ask questions to key players from the Canadian audiovisual industry.

The National Media Awards Foundation (NMAF) has announced the nominees for the 49th annual National Magazine Awards, recognizing excellence in Canadian print and digital publishing.
This year, eight magazines from British Columbia have received a total of ten nominations across categories including investigative reporting, fiction, poetry, service journalism and art direction - highlighting the strength and diversity of B.C.'s publishing sector.
Winners will be announced on June 5 in Toronto. Congratulations to all nominees!
