📣 THE FIRST HYPHA WEEKENDER
📣 04-07 JUNE
📅 HOLD THE DATE
This June we are celebrating Hypha’s huge impact across London’s arts scene across four busy days of culture.
💃 Our very first Hypha Weekender festival takes place 04-07 June, bringing you a feast of free things to do:
🐣 3 SHOW OPENINGS AT NO.1 POULTRY
🖼️ 6 EXHIBITIONS WITH EXTENDED HOURS
👩🎨 15 OPEN STUDIOS
🖌️ FREE PUBLIC WORKSHOPS & EVENTS
Keep an eye out for further details and a full programme soon, but an important date for your diary is when it all starts, 6-9pm on 04 June with three exciting openings at our No.1 Poultry galleries in the heart of the City of London.
Since 2022, Hypha Studios have presented 142 exhibitions and awarded free studios to 59 artists in London alone. These are all awarded through free-to-apply open calls in the spirit of democratising the making and experience of contemporary culture for all – and we can’t wait to celebrate it with you over our first Hypha Weekender!

📣 HYPHA PRESENTS -
‘Monstrous Carbuncle’ Curated by Lee Suh @studioleesuh
🎟️ PV: Thursday, 4th June, 6 – 9 PM
🔗 RSVP via Hypha Studios’ Eventbrite
📍 Hypha Gallery 3 / No. 1 Poultry
Presented at Hypha Studios, Gallery 3 at No.1 Poultry, Monstrous Carbuncle is a group exhibition featuring Anna Harding, Lucía Scarselletta, Lee Suh and Nicolaas van de Lande.
Set within the iconic No. 1 Poultry, the exhibition reflects on architectural ambition, vacancy, and reuse, and the realities of precarious living in London today.
The title references Prince Charles’s 1984 critique of modern architecture, a phrase that still echoes in how we view the built environment. Here, the building itself becomes part of the conversation.
Through painting, craft, drawing and sculptural surfaces, the artists explore the city as a layered site of memory, tension and transformation.

💭 Though we do not end at the skin, we remain strangers to ourselves. What emerges from an encounter, slight and barely perceptible, is an unraveling. Slow, but gripping. Boundaries erode. Something ineffable seeps in. The self becomes a site of invasion.
Presented at Hypha Studios, Gallery 1 at No.1 Poultry, INVASIVE SPECIES brings together fifteen emerging and mid-career women artists who investigate how invasion and intrusion generate dissonance between our inner and outer worlds. Spanning painting, sculpture, moving image, scent-infused installation, sound, and gastronomy, the exhibition is accompanied by a programme of live events, including a series of site-responsive performances by DANCÆ, a Berlin-based dance collective that fuses choreography with performance art and electronic music.
INVASIVE SPECIES is not a show that speaks to the eyes first. It unsettles, then confronts. Drawing on Surrealism, mysticism, the natural world, the weird and the eerie, it assembles forms and frameworks that grow, creep, haunt, and disintegrate, aiming to articulate the tensions between the visceral and the restrained.

❕OPEN CALL: Make Do/Make Space, curated by Nicholas Stavri ❕
We invite artists to apply to Hypha Curates’ next open call, to be held at Hypha Gallery South Bank, our largest and most ambitious site in London. We therefore invite works of scale and ambition, too. 💫
Open call theme:
‘Make Do / Make Space’ is a rallying cry for a generation of self-starting artists who have refused to wait for museums, galleries, and cultural institutions to open up. At a time when public funding is shrinking, institutional support remains out of reach for many, and museum doors stay closed to the unrepresented, these artists have built their own communities, made do with limited resources, made space where none existed, and produced some of the most exciting sculptural work in London.
Artists working in sculpture are especially welcome to apply, as are those exploring related processes, inquiry, & methods across varied media.
📝 Open call details:
📍 Physical selling exhibition at Hypha Gallery South Bank (42 Southwark Bridge Road, SE1 9EU) & artwork listing on Hypha Curates platform.
📆 Exhibition dates: 7 August - 13 September 2026
Private View: 6 August, 6-9pm
APPLICATION DEADLINE: SUNDAY, JUNE 28, 6 PM
🔗 Apply via the link in our bio.

‘HARDCORE SOFTWARE’ by the eponymous collective
🎟️ PV: Thursday, 28th May, 6 – 9 PM

💭 Hardcore Software is a practice-driven collective united by a bold engagement with the body in all its material, relational, and mediated forms. Our work explores how embodiment intersects with space, technology, and other bodies across both physical and hyper-real (online/digital) environments, moving from the tender and sensual to the sharp and visceral.
In dialogue with Hypha Studios and its new exhibition space on Fenchurch Street, our proposal foregrounds embodied experience as a site of connection, disruption, and shared encounter.

💪 In a former Wilko store, Hypha Studios offers the people of Hillsborough, Sheffield, not 1, not 2, but THREE free cultural amenities.
🏬 Last week Hypha proudly showed off our exciting Project Space to local politicians so they can learn how culture & community come together in empty high street units to the benefit of thousands of Sheffield residents.
👉 Sheffield Brightside & Hillsborough MP Gill Furniss was joined by local Councillors Toby Mallinson & Christine Gilligan Kubo to explore all three floors of the Hypha Project Space, enjoying work from practicing artists & community workshops, & experiencing the energy, life & culture that has grown in Hillsborough’s high street.
🔗 Hypha Studios exists by bringing people together & here in Hillsborough it’s rewarding to connect the landlord, property partners, local Council (@sheffieldcitycouncil) & the Goldsmiths Foundation - not to mention incredible community organisers, local artists & thousands of visitors to workshops and exhibitions. It helps reimagine the local high street as a place for all.
0️⃣ GROUND FLOOR
The Drawing Shop (@the.drawing.shop) have turned the whole space into an artwork, where walls & floor are free canvases for kids & community workshops all week long! Johnsey & his team, including great volunteers, with support from The Goldsmiths Company (@thegoldsmithscompany), have worked tirelessly to support culture for all in Hillsborough.
1️⃣ 1ST FLOOR
A changing gallery hosts ‘Living Memory’, comprising emerging artists from Sheffield with work exploring the breadth of human experience with a wide array of media. Keep an eye out for upcoming shows!
📅 until 27th June. Wed-Fri,1-5pm. Saturday, 10am-1pm
2️⃣ 2ND FLOOR
On the top floor, 21 local artists have studios where much of ‘Living Memory’ was created. Right in the centre of Sheffield, one of the most generous & collaborative creative communities is growing & we couldn’t be more proud.
🌐 Follow @the.drawing.shop to find out more about the workshops and activities.

📣 HYPHA PRESENTS -
“Call Incoming…”
Curated by @haydndoesart
🎟️ PV: Thursday, 28th May, 6 – 9 PM
🔗 RSVP via Hypha Studios’ Eventbrite
📍 Hypha HQ, Unit 3, Euston Tower, 286 Euston Road, NW1 3AS
💭 Call Incoming… takes its cue from the playground game “Telephone”, where a whispered message morphs each time it’s passed along. Made up entirely of new, bespoke works, the inception of this show began with a piece by curator Haydn Albrow, whose work was shared confidentially to the next artist to reinterpret in their own style and medium before they passed their piece onto another. The chain continues artist by artist, culminating in an exhibition that reveals how a single artwork can evolve, distort, and transform through multiple creative voices.
As each piece morphs through medium, material, and theme, the show celebrates the diversity of the featured artists’ interpretive lenses. While the Telephone Game is often a byword for inaccuracy or a cumulative error caused by the spread of information, “Call Incoming…” stands as a celebration of evolution of a message through interpretation and translation.
In a world of polarised discourse and remote communication where tone and nuance are so often lost in restrictive formats, “Call Incoming…” also questions our tendency to assume we have all the information we need to make a judgement – will the artwork at the end of the chain bear any resemblance to the initial piece?
