Equilibrium Amidst the Push and Pull
Oil and charcoal on canvas, antique wooden frame gilded in gold leaf
87cm x 61cm
Here, the work becomes a dialectic that reveals something essential about existence and ontology. It depicts the possibility that a thing can have contradictory aspects and yet achieve harmony. This notion suggests that contradiction is not inherently dissonant but can instead produce a deeper unity. Within this apparent contradiction lies a momentary equilibrium amidst the chaos, highlighting the tension that lies within the figures’ hands. The figures hands depicted here are both trapped and transcendent; they inhabit a space where time folds in on itself, where movement is both perpetual and futile.
Ultimately, the work is an exploration of the space between compulsion and liberation, fate and agency and recurrence and rupture. The human form, in all its fragility and resilience, becomes the vehicle through which these abstract tensions are made visible. It is through the body that I attempt to grapple with these paradoxical questions.
