Originally a saltwater storage facility, the new Center for Coastal Studies at Scripps sits at the edge of land and sea.

The project preserves the original concrete tank while transforming it into a light-filled research facility focused on durability, reduced carbon, and long-term adaptability. New openings bring in ocean air and views, allowing much of the building to operate without active cooling, while resilient materials help it withstand the coastal climate.

At the new U.S. Consulate General Mérida, the area's architectural history and its unique natural environment informed the site's landscape design, with stone walls, edging, and water troughs referencing common features found in haciendas throughout the region.

Official visitors and staff follow a low limestone wall to the main building entrance, marked by one of these water features. The consular entrance is separate, with a clear and direct approach framed by a limestone wall on one side and a lushly planted garden and shaded outdoor waiting pavilion on the other.

Diving into the details at the Newhouse Replacement Building.

From locally sourced Douglas Fir mass timber and salvaged materials to the feature wall and innovative timber assemblies, each element reflects a commitment to sustainability, longevity, and place-based storytelling. Our design maintains continuity with the Capitol Campus’s neoclassical surroundings through form, geometry, and historic patterns, while carefully integrated systems support flexibility for future uses and an extended building lifespan.

This replicable ALS-accessible home integrates smart technology, cross-laminated timber, and biophilic design.

Working with Matt’s Place Foundation, @millerhull created a sustainable, replicable 1,500-sq-ft home tailored to the needs of ALS patients’ and their family members or caretakers.

The carport and covered roof deck provide weather-protected spaces for the patient to move from vehicle to wheelchair safely and benefits from being in nature.

Cross-laminated timber walls and ceilings accommodate weather barriers, structural splines, recessed outlets, and accessible plumbing chases, while also providing a warm, biophilic environment for patient well-being.

The property is equipped with smart technology tailored for ALS patients, including home control systems operated by the occupant’s eye movements.

Kennedy Library is featured on @dezeen.

Designed as a more open, welcoming place for students, our renovation brings the building back to its original intent, reconnecting spaces to the central courtyard and creating a clearer, more intuitive experience throughout.

“‘Every design move was focused on the student experience,’ Miller Hull Partnership principal Danielle Buttacavoli told Dezeen, explaining that the project extended the building's original design intent rather than departing from it. On the exterior, the team replaced all of the exterior glazing with high-performance insulated glass and modified the roof to accommodate future photovoltaic installation. ‘These changes work with the retained exterior shade fins to reduce solar heat gain and improve the building's thermal performance,’ the studio said.” - Dezeen

The new U.S. Consulate General Mérida is our fourth project completed with @state_obo, and achieved LEED Gold Certification earlier this year.

Exceeding stringent federal performance goals by integrating utility optimization and natural hazard adaptation, the Consulate serves the needs of American citizens and visa applicants from across Mexico’s Yucatán peninsula, including the popular destinations of Cancún and Cozumel. The seven-acre campus draws upon the dual influences of the historic Maya and colonial eras, seen through the lens of the region’s rich contemporary culture.

The Kendeda Building at @georgiatech redefines what’s possible for sustainable design in the Southeast.

One of the first Living Building Challenge certified projects in the region, the building operates as a net-positive energy and water system, designed to give more than it takes. From its photovoltaic canopy to rainwater collection and mass timber structure, every element works together as a model for regenerative design in a hot, humid climate. More than a building, it’s a living laboratory—shaping how students, designers, and communities think about the future of the built environment.
