We had to say goodbye to our beloved mascot, Maudie. Often your first welcome to Shobac, but leaving a lasting memory. She brought immense joy through her gentle nature and loving presence. From the children who clung off her back, the interns who found a friend in her, and her grounding force in our family, she made a lasting impact on many people and this place.

Lighting a Fire:
This is more than a restaurant, more than a design project, it’s family. Almost two years ago, my brother @colinbebbs came to me with what seemed like an unlikely reality, a wood-fire restaurant on the Halifax Waterfront, but I told him I would help in any way I can. Having known Colin for so long, one thing is for sure… When he gets an idea in his head, there’s no holding back. He said he wanted a @mackaylyonssweetapple design, and wouldn’t have it any other way. I immediately knew the perfect person for the job @paryse.beatty, a great designer, human and all around badass. Designing this restaurant with Colin, my dad, Paryse and Shane, was one of the most rewarding design projects of my career.
While it’s been a tough two years since, with a lot of change for me, Tribute was a constant. Colin was a constant. His support was a constant. When I decided to step away from architecture, Colin gave me the chance to take my design role even further. Taking on the branding/graphic design, signage, web design, media, and even furniture design, was more than I could have ever anticipated, and something I would’ve historically shied away from, but Colin encouraged me to believe in myself.
Colin’s commitment to his passion is inspiring; his unwavering vision, his love for Nova Scotia, and the care in his craft will light a fire in anyone. When my pilot light was almost extinguished, Colin kept it going. While @tribute.restaurant is a tribute to Colin’s mentors, I think it’s really a tribute to passion in general. The thing that keeps us going, the thing that pushes us to defy the odds, make the unrealistic a reality, to live a life committed to learning, and to share what we learn with the world to pass on the torch. To those who live in passion, to those who share their passion, and to those who inspire passion, never let that fire die.

Almost two years ago, my brother @colinbebbs came to me with what seemed like an unlikely reality, a wood-fire restaurant on the Halifax Waterfront, but I told him I would help in any way I can. Having known Colin for so long, one thing is for sure… When he gets an idea in his head, there’s no holding back. He said he wanted a @mackaylyonssweetapple design, and wouldn’t have it any other way. I immediately knew the perfect person for the job @paryse.beatty, a great designer, human and all around badass. Designing this restaurant with Colin, my dad, Paryse and Shane, was one of the most rewarding design projects of my career.
While it’s been a tough two years since, with a lot of change for me, Tribute was a constant. Colin was a constant. His support was a constant. When I decided to step away from architecture, Colin gave me the chance to take my design role even further. Taking on the branding/graphic design, signage, web design, media, and even furniture design, was more than I could have ever anticipated, and something I would’ve historically shied away from, but Colin encouraged me to believe in myself.
