There are fifty-two writers and artists in Elastic’s second volume, the interspecies issue. By “interspecies,” they mean exchanges between humans, plants, animals, fungi. Also, interactions with the landscape, the elements, the ancestors, bacteria and parasites, coral reefs, ghosts, the poem as body. They mean that we are being invaded: by floods and fires and machines. They mean that we are invaders, wrecking each other and wrecking ourselves.

This moldy peach marks the end of Elastic no. 1. It’s taken us over year to highlight every piece of psychedelic art and writing in our first issue exactly once on Instagram; that’s how much this magazine holds. But mold also means transformation, regeneration. Issue no. 2 is coming *this week*.

Ukrainian artist Danylo Movchan (@danylo_movchan) trained as an icon painter in a tradition of fixed, sacred imagery. But after the invasion, he turned to the immediacy of watercolor to create works that flow and bleed and have accumulated into a diary of war.
