Sacred Matter: Reclaiming the Garden Artist Feature ✨ Devra Fox ✨

XoXo Gallery is thrilled to have two of Devra Fox's pieces in our current exhibit- "Swap", red lead and graphite on paper, 19x17 inches and "Left Out" red lead on paper, 13x12 inches.

Statement: My work is often driven by the impulse to animate my internal state, seeking understanding by creating palpable forms of sentiment, memory and relationship. I return over and over again to the repetitive, meticulous, and meditative practice drawing provides. I’m interested in the relationship between humans and plants, existing in assumed separation but, in reality, symbiotically connected. I am fascinated by the crossover, imbuing plants with human attributes and creating visual connections, such as the correlation between the stemming of human veins and branches of a tree. Themes of interdependence and embodiment, mirrored within the human body and the natural world are present within my drawings. I am compelled by the desire for and expressions of bodily containment; the concept of nature, and our powerlessness to sway it. I question how these reactions seep outside our bodies, molding our physicality and creating attachment to places and objects.

Bio: Devra Fox is a visual artist based in San Francisco, CA. Fox (b. 1989) received her BA in Studio Art from Bard College in 2012 and MFA in Visual Art from Columbia University in 2016. Fox participated in residencies at Pocoapoco, The Women’s Studio Workshop, The Vermont Studio Center and Kala Art Institute. Fox’s work has been exhibited in numerous galleries nationally and internationally.

Sacred Matter: Reclaiming the Garden, curated by @jacqueline_yvonne_art and @bgmills is on view at XoXo Gallery 1.15.2026- 2.19.2026. Gallery hours are Tues - Sat 12-4. We are on the 3rd floor of Maryland Art Place.

Artwork inquiries are welcome Both pieces are framed. DM or email for inquiries.

Save the date for XoXo Gallery's first show of 2026! Opening reception will be Thursday 1.22.26, 6-9 pm.

XoXo Gallery presents "Sacred Matter: Reclaiming the Garden", a collection of ecofeminist and spiritual works that serve in resistance to the patriarchal systems that have glorified dominance over Earth and women. Through use of the body, botanicals, water, and mysticism, the works of Claudia Capelle, Meiyan Dong @meiyandong_ , Patricia Edwine Poku, Devra Fox, Julia Gould, Linda Plaisted, and V Walton @victoriawaltonstudio shed light on the ever-present divine feminine, and the long-held history of women's connection to nature, life cycles, care, and horizontal power structures. "Sacred Matter: Reclaiming the Garden" explores how returning the feminine to the sacred restores the divinity in our bodies, in the land, and in the water, and can lead to a pathway towards social and ecological justice.

Curated by Jacqueline Yvonne Tull and Bridgette Guerzon Mills @jacqueline_yvonne_art @bgmills

✨ JUST RELEASED ✨
Three new prints from 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗿𝗮 𝗙𝗼𝘅’𝘀 𝘛𝘸𝘰 𝘪𝘯 𝘖𝘯𝘦 series are now available on Exhibition A.

Created from Fox’s intimate graphite drawings, the works entwine human and botanical forms to reflect on connection, transformation, and the experience of becoming. The series emerged from Fox’s reflections on pregnancy and early motherhood, considering matrescence as a state of doubling, when one body becomes two.

Each work is an archival pigment print, produced in a small, intimate scale that mirrors the quiet intensity of the drawings themselves.
Edition of 35
$100 each

Available now via the link in bio.
