SOVERN
Sovern is an intersectional community center and art gallery, located in LA’s West Adams district, focused on supporting BIWOC+

We are thrilled to announce the second year of Sovern’s Artist in Residency Program is now open to applications! See our link tree for details and application. Apply by June 15th.
This residency provides a platform for two emerging youth artists to deepen their practice while receiving mentorship, professional guidance, and career development support designed to foster a holistic and sustainable artistic career. The program is centered on helping artists refine their voice, expand their creative inquiry, and build confidence in their evolving practice. Participants will be encouraged to experiment, take creative risks, and engage critically with their work within a supportive and collaborative environment.
Selected artists will each receive a $7,000 stipend to support studio time, materials, transportation, and other residency-related needs, in addition to mentorship, professional network-building opportunities, and a culminating three-month exhibition at Sovern opening December 3, 2026. The exhibition will conclude with a public panel event on February 27, 2027, during LA Art Week.
Residents will receive ongoing mentorship with Dale Brockman Davis @dalebrockmandavis — Los Angeles–based artist, educator, and community activist with additional programming and professional development sessions led by Terrell Tilford @terrelltilford , Founder & Creative Director, Band of Vices; Dominique Clayton, @lookatdominique Curator, Writer, Founder, Dominique Gallery; and Riyaana Hartley @riyaanahartley Creative Director. Curriculum topics will include portfolio and artist statement development, pricing and presenting artwork, promotion and visibility strategies, and cultivating the discipline and structure necessary to sustain a long-term creative practice.

Introducing From Gallery To Garment, the new ELLERALI brand video.
This film is a visual story of what ELLERALI has always believed: fashion is art, clothing carries meaning, and what already exists can be recreated into something powerful, beautiful, and new.
The concept begins in a gallery, where people are viewing art on the walls. As the story unfolds, the art comes to life through the garments they wear. It is a reminder that creativity is not only something we look at, it is something we can live in, move in, and express ourselves through.
ELLERALI is built on upcycling, sustainability, and one of a kind design. Every piece is created from repurposed garments and textiles, transforming what could have been discarded into wearable art.
From gallery to garment.
From waste to wonder.
From what was, to what can be.
Watch the full brand video and explore the collection at ellerali.com

This will be a phones-down, dialogue focused gathering for artists and arts workers of all genders to discuss and connect. Part of the Now Let’s Talk, Los Angeles programming.

We’re pleased to announce our summer exhibition, “Into the Pluriverse”.
This exhibition, curated by Nordia Simmonds (@_drdiggy), is an interdisciplinary, group exhibition that incites the co-conspiracy of many ways of being human. The term pluriverse is a Zapatistan term that illustrates a commitment to and the concept of a world in which many worlds fit (Malandonado-Villalpando, 2022). The show proposes the artworks of Jessica Taylor Bellamy (@jbellzamy), April Bey (@aprilbey_), and Nia Lee (@nialeeomg) as tools of interrupting systems of oppression and erasure.

As Islamophobia continues to rise across the country, films like I’d Rather Be Dead Than Silent feel less like history and more like a warning.
Join Sovern LA and Isma/Shema Consulting for a screening of this gripping documentary following Professor Khaled Abou El Fadl — one of the most prominent Muslim scholars speaking out against extremism, authoritarianism, and the climate of fear and anti-Muslim hate that intensified after 9/11.
The forces this film names — fear, division, and the silencing of dissent — do not exist in a vacuum. They shape our communities, our politics, and the ways we see one another, often in ways we fail to fully confront.
Join us June 4 for an evening of film, reflection, and conversation grounded in community, courage, and the urgency of speaking up.
Tiffany Conway’s NO Painting invites us to establish loving boundaries that carve out time and space for ourselves. One of the major themes of ‘sacred’ is self-care. For many folks of color, self-care is considered an unaffordable luxury. This exhibition challenges that idea and offers everyday tools for caring for yourself.

Naomi Stewart is the curatorial mind behind ‘sacred’, an exhibition that centers Black art, joy, and healing in a world that devalues these contributions. Naomi’s intention and care is evident in the authentic relationships built with the exhibiting artists, selection of works, and deep connection to the spiritual work at play in the exhibition. (@naomithewanderess)
Connect with Naomi tonight at the Closing Reception of ‘sacred’ at 7PM.

Don’t miss your last chance to check out Dellis’ work at the closing reception of ‘sacred’ @sovern.la this Thursday May 7th at 7PM.
We were honored to have exhibiting artist Dellis Frank (@dellisfrank_theartist) break down her piece, “Be Amended”. Dellis explores the history of The Three-Fifths Compromise which tried to diminish Black people to subhuman. This multimedia piece rejects this idea by celebrating blackness with images of Black Lives Matters protest, excerpts from The Constitution, and news headlines from NFL controversies of players taking a knee during the National Anthem. Dellis’ works remind us of our wholeness and sacredness.
