storyteller // mover // bone setter // circle keeper // 🪙🎠
at the end of the cycle, she pretends to leave for good until the coyotes yip & yip for her to please bring her fire back to the circle where she belongs. once she is full & sure of their yips, she returns with more offerings to the ether & the circle.
the light shifts to high priestess blue, birds begin to chirp, the crowd sinks deeper into the earth & begins to clap in anticipation, a single wild coyote yips her name into the ether, the yip multiplies & grows louder, the birds continue to chirp from places felt but unseen, she touches the ether with a few of her own notes, the light shutters in response, another coyote yips into the ether, it grows into one last wave, a coyote whistles flirtatiously, another invokes her fire boldly—a fusillade of joy parts time & space. she animates.

In the spirit of expanding capacity to gather & channel together, tomorrow evening (5/14) we initiate Gritos y Canzoni, a maybe recurring night of divine screams & songs from the heart. Noche de gritos y canzoni is a salon, an exchange between people who leverage their voices one way or another. You are free to offer your voice in your body, voice outside your body, voiced or unvoiced voice of your lineage, singing voice, screaming voice.
We invite you to reflect: What hill are you willing to die on? What does the cry from your heart on that hill sound like?
What to expect:
-A lovingly curated group of attendees (you!)
-A flow of offerings running between 8-9:30pm
-5-10 mins performances, offerings, works in progress all relating to the voice in some way (loosely, conceptually, directly—whatever works!)
-A facilitated group activation in case you don’t have something prepared
-A party and chance to exchange and digest all that was shared7 spaces to perform in the lineup (10 mins each) are up for grabs. We welcome works in progress, excerpts, and improvisations. First to come with offerings, first reserved. DM if you & yours are interested in performing/offering, space limited.
What we are offering:
The nooks and crannies of our DTLA loft music studio are open for your voices
The hosts:
+ @vwhitehawk (we/she/they) is a L.A born & raised storyteller reluctantly emerging from a period of dormancy on ancestral charge to flap her tongue & wage her energies in service of…
+Some time salonière @julianasnapper (she/her) is a suspected lesbian terrorist of the Near East and known operatic enabler.
+ @_heather_gray (she/her) is often crossing (patch) cables and (vocal) chords. As an audiovisual voyager, she revels in currents of friction, harmonics, and resistance.

Honey Balm is a healers-for-healers evening of reciprocity & collective care, held by the vision & generosity we all bring to the circle. This is a potluck gathering inspired by the honeybee & the acronym BALM: Belonging, Access, Listening, and Medicine.
Together we will co-create sacred space through altar building, an opening prayer & meditation honoring the four directions, & explore the wisdom of circles to nurture & support both personal & collective capacity to resolve & envision.
This healing justice based container will be guided by @remember_thisfeeling , @jxsmineayala & @vwhitehawk.
Please feel free to bring a personal sacred item or earth offering (flowers, crystals, feathers, shells, etc.) to add to our collective altar.

I am being prepared to travel “back home” as my grandma used to call it. I leave in June just after her birthday to perform elements of her story & connect with my inheritance. As I get ready, I feel this great swell of energy curling over & through me. Now that some of the fractionated rights & interests to the land & minerals she inherited from her grandfather Luke have been transferred to me the glossy words of spineless so called peace treaties & removal acts weighs even heavier on my heart today. Her words are slapping differently right now & my heart is beating hard for those courageous relatives putting their bodies on the line to protect Pe’Sla, one of the sacred hearts of this earth. Ear to the ground, loves. Follow, amplify & support: @lakotalaw @bhcleanwateralliance @iiyc.oglala.lakota @oln.yc & ndncollective
They said as long as the grass grows the land we shook hands about would be ours to steward forever, all that while erecting strategic military posts to protect themselves, control our resources, movement & output like the cattle ranched by the white leasers of our fractionated homelands–“defeated” & forcibly enclosed, decimated & weakened to such an extent that we become dependent on the “goodwill” ofenemies who no longer regard us as negotiating partners with equal rights but as wards of the BIA, deprived of political, economic & cultural autonomy & subjected to relentless pressure to assimilate.
Listen for the bang of conflict in this clip from our documentary of a memory sifting session we did with my grandma in 2020. That bang was the sound of a loving ancestral correction & even more loving instructions. What happens to the earth when a cow has the freedom to choose what it eats? What is the environmental impact of a strategically terminated lease agreement? How many forehead wrinkles is a bad partnership worth? What happens when you bring them back home?

On February 27, 2026, the U.S. Forest Service approved new drilling around Pe’ Sla — the ceremonial heart of He Sapa, the Black Hills— over formal tribal objections, with no environmental review, under a document falsely claiming there are “no known Native American or Alaska Native religious or cultural sites within the project area,” about land a half-mile from Pe’ Sla.
Now the Bureau of Land Management has opened a 30-day comment window on the Dewey-Burdock uranium project — 50 miles from Pine Ridge, in Lakota treaty territory. The 1868 Fort Laramie Treaty appears in the review exactly zero times. The document resolving cultural harm to Lakota sacred sites won’t be signed until six weeks after the comment period closes.
When we pray & wage our energies against forces that take life, when we pray for balance & harmony, we’re working & praying for us all, not just for our own little clique or family. There are reasons why Lakota songs are sung by others all around the world.
Today, I’m submitting public comment to the BLM on the Dewey-Burdock environmental assessment—the deadline is May 14th & then I’m going to make some ☕️ & call the Bureau of Indian Affairs to request maps to the tracks of land & minerals we just inherited in the Black Hills, & on the Cheyenne River & Pine Ridge reservations.

This summer we feel for ourselves what it could mean to rematriate land & resources that are choked by invasive contracts & systems, feel for ourselves what it will take.
La—means dear or precious. Stay fighting for what is precious to us.

3. SustainableIT.org in partnership with Human-IT and the City of Santa Monica, hosted an executive-level discussion focused on what they think is actually working right now. Senior leaders &industry practitioners like the VP of a major danish shipping & logistics company, Palette Partners who supply palettes to shipping companies & partner with biochar experts to manage wood waste in a good way, and Sunny Wang–Water Resources Manager and Principal Water Resources Engineer for the City of Santa Monica– who fielded a concern about the amount of resources like ultra pure water that data centers require for things like cooling. He offered that some colleagues within the consulting arms of the water industry are meeting with entities like the World Bank to discuss incentivizing industrial use because “the problem with water right now is that it’s cheap… we operate a $75 million a year operating budget, but [he] sells water at a penny a gallon. That’s very cheap for an industry that’s making semi-conductor chips. AI generates a lot more revenue; that’s nothing for them. So, we are trying to figure out how to incentive them to invest in re-use to use that water, so they are not taking that fresh water supply from your everyday drinking uses. So, there are parts of the country where we are looking at things like that on a policy level. If you are going to build that factory, you’re going to need a re-use system with it to supply yourself.”

2. LA Country Youth & Survivors took space & flexed their voices on the steps of the LA County Board of Supervisors to demand that we all stand with them & work together to kill SB 577–a quiet but direct attack on survivors that seeks to limit compensation for those who experienced sexual violence in youth facilities. These are our local Epstein files, let’s throw our spirit & support behind these brave young voices & the beautiful networks of care that gather lovingly around them: @sisterwarriorsfreedom, @reimagine_la, @la_studentsdeserve, @youthjusticela, @young_women_free. Sadly, it goes without saying, their stories are our stories. Their right to reconciliation is our right to reconciliation. Let us flock like it con mucho amor.
3. Yesterday, we participated in the Culture Global Stocktake for Climate Action: Local Pathways to Implementation hosted by @creativemigration at the @thaicdc across the street from what used to be a small movie theatre my mom & I caught double-features at for something like $4. The stockpile was held in a meeting room in the Santa Monica & Vermont Apartments right above the metro station. The green project was developed by @ltsc.cdc, a non-profit social service organization & affordable housing developer. This project provides 187 affordable units to low income households, with half of the units reserved as permanent supportive housing for homeless individuals, mostly single mothers w/ children. The project also includes on-site supportive services for residents, provided by Housing Works. Gratitude for @creativemigration for modeling meaningful activations.

Today i rode out with @trashpandacycling in solidarity with the @gazasunbirds who are mourning the loss of their kin & teammate Saed Qadoom who was killed on March 28th. Now, his children, like too many sacred little ones living through the fires of bottomless greed & cruelty, will grow up without their father who in spite of it all embodied dignity, recovery & the right to live freely. Reaching deep into my well & sending everlasting love to the @gazasunbirds as they metabolize their grief & survive this devastation. Prayers way up for all of our motherlands & all of our children.
If you are able to support, scan the QR code on the last slide & help the @gazasunbirds. Option to also consider following @chevronoutofpalestine for what else you can do to intervene, resist & withdraw your participation in these cycles of mass destruction. Holding gratitude & trust that this post will travel upstream against the gallowrhythm into the right hearts & hands.
