Introducing 𝗢.𝗞. 𝗞.𝗢. – 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 (𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴) 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯, something I've been working on lately.O.K. K.O. is a space for gathering, reflection, and critique that, over the course of a year, brings together designers, educators, researchers, and other voices, to read, discuss, and write about design and its social, political, and cultural intersections.

The program unfolds in two parts: six months of collective reading and discussion of selected works, followed by six months dedicated to the collaborative production of critical essays in pairs and groups, culminating in a final publication.

The club is open to women*, both designers and non-designers, who seek time, support, and community to think and write about the social and political dimensions of design, countering the scarcity of diverse voices in design criticism in Portugal. Its first edition is place-based (Lisbon) and applications are currently closed.

I’m deeply grateful to @terezabettinardi and her @clubedolivrodesign, as well as @paimnina, @futuress, and the Troublemakers program – constant sources of inspiration and engines of positive change. A warm thank you to @duarteisabel and @inklabz for helping me think this through.

O.K. K.O. will be popping up here and there—sharing what we’re reading, thinking, and creating—so you can follow along.

*Including cisgender and transgender women, as well as non-binary people who identify with feminine aspects of gender.

Earlier this year, @margarida_fsa and @pedrodmmota, @vaivemvaivem’s editors and publishers, approached me with an invitation to write the next book in their collection. From the reflection on my experience as a student and (design) educator, both in alternative and institutional educational spaces, “The Infinite School” is born. Above all, it’s an ode to knowledge as a space for resistance and community.

The book is published in Portuguese with an English translation, and available through Vai Vem’s web shop (link in bio) at a special launch price (10,80€) until December 10th.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Eva Gonçalves’ “The Infinite School” marks Vai Vem’s fourth pocketbook release. Within its pages, the author explores alternative design education models that align with the contemporary shifts in labor, politics, society, and economics. The book details the “Ellipsis Open School” experience, offering insights into a potential horizontal, free, and community-centric approach.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

O.K./K.O. Berlin

Five meetings.
One book.
A collaborative zine.

This summer we’re reading Wolfgang Fritz Haug’s Critique of Commodity Aesthetics, a Marxist analysis of how capitalism shapes appearance, desire, and beauty. A dense read, best shared.

A small, informal group for women and non-binary people in design who want to think and write critically, together.

Deadline: 28/05 → details in the carousel ↑

Obrigada e bem hajam!

Poster design for a Poem Manifesto, visualizing the outcomes of Rob Blake’s (@robblaketv) Manifesto Writing Workshop at Ellipsis Open School, 2019.The workshop was a collective writing exercise that resulted in twenty-nine axioms, reflections, and collages—each expressing the dreams and desires of the group.

These axioms, as disparate as they are absurd, serve as a record not only of collective aspirations but also of shared anxieties and fears. Grammatical, spelling, and semantic errors were intentionally preserved; after all, English—the language that connects us—is not native to all participants. The manifesto, almost poetic in nature, stands as a written testimony to our longing for connection, belonging, and presence, while also affirming the values that unite us: political, environmental, economic, and social.

Collectively written by:

Rob Blake
James Cornish
Louisa Elderton (@louisaelderton)
Eva Gonçalves,
GeoVanna Gonzalez (@vanna_juanita)
Najja Moon (@najjak)
Miki Kadokura (@mikikadomikikado)
Indiana Lawrence (@iiiindiiiii)
Zoe Minikes (@zoehavingfuntimes)
Patrick Sandefur
Antonio Uve (@mr_uve)
