Story Time ✨
At the start of the season, Renea @therealdarklady and I noticed something powerful happening across the Washington DC theatre scene: an unprecedented wave of shows written by Black artists, for Black audiences. If you know, you know—this doesn’t happen often. So we decided to mark the moment together.
We created the “Going Dark” crossover event: a night of great food, drinks, vibes, and music, designed for connection, celebration, and community networking. It was exactly what the moment called for.
Shoutout to the incredible casts and teams of Piano Lesson, Fremont Ave, Red Pitch, Furlough’s Paradise, The American Five, Julius X, The Great Privation, Merry Wives, and Play On for showing up, showing out, and making this season unforgettable.
Since that night, we’ve been getting the same question over and over: “When are y’all doing it again?”
Keep your eyes and ears open, DC theatre fam. A bigger, even more special event for the entire Washington DC theatre community is coming soon—and everyone is invited.
Let’s keep building together.
Shout out to @studiotheatre for the location and @theatrewash for the support!!
All love, all the time! 🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾

I feel grateful to have made my debut at the @folgerlibrary in a reading of VOO DOO MACBETH as Ross, alongside the incredible @adjoa.andoh and my mentor John Douglas Thompson. It's a full circle moment, as I recall being inspired by your portrayal of Shylock in The Merchant of Venice, and now, years later, we're sharing the stage for some Shakespeare.
Being in that room was a true blessing, surrounded by talented Black artists. And to top it off, auntie Adjoa masterfully directed this work. Thank you for your brilliance, professionalism, and expertise. Congratulations on the completion of your residency at the Folger in DC.

I had fun creating this #michaeljackson #maryjblige #whitneyhouston Mix.
Iconic Artists to help celebrate Iconic Activists.
Someone drop the beat because here we… Go-go back to DC for the awards on May 18th!!!!! 🎶💃🏿🪩🕺🏿

I’m writing as a lifelong follower of Michael Jackson’s work — someone who has been listening to his music and watching his performances since I was five years old. His artistry shaped so much of how I approach my craft as a performer, and my understanding of the power of performance.
Congratulations to @jaafarjackson! on your incredible work in this film. You brought such heart, nuance, and authenticity to the role — it felt like a true tribute that honored Michael’s legacy while making it feel alive and fresh for a new generation. I was moved, inspired, and deeply impressed.
Thank you for pouring your talent into this project. It means a lot to followers like me who have carried Michael’s music in our hearts for decades. I’ll be cheering for you as your career continues to grow.
With admiration and gratitude brotha! Keep killing it!!! ✊🏾🙏🏾🫶🏾

May 1st and it’s DC HELEN HAYES AWARD season! DC been showing me so much love, and all I can do is give it back!
Dear Theatre Washington and the Helen Hayes Awards Committee,
I am deeply honored and sincerely grateful to be nominated for the 2026 Helen Hayes Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Play. To be recognized by such a respected and vibrant artistic community is truly humbling, and I do not take this moment lightly.
Portraying Clarence Jones has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my career. To step into the life of a historical figure who contributed so profoundly to the Civil Rights Movement carries both a great responsibility and a deep sense of purpose. It has challenged me as an artist and enriched me as a person, reminding me of the power of storytelling to preserve truth, ignite reflection, and inspire change.
I feel incredibly blessed to receive this recognition. It is a testament not only to my work, but to the entire creative team, whose dedication and passion made this performance possible. Theatre has always been a space for connection, dialogue, and transformation, and I am grateful to be part of a community that continues to uplift these values.
Thank you for this honor and for your continued support of the arts.
Shout out to my fellow cast mates also nominated for their work in this show. @roboddieart @stephenconradmoore @aerobinder our amazing director @aaron.posner and none of this show could have been possible without the amazing @therealdarklady

A couple days ago we opened a brand new play called THE AMERICAN FIVE by @chessjakobs and directed by @aaron.posner.
A part of what it is to be an artist is to disrupt. RIGHT NOW in Washington we’re using our voices to do what we can to spark a conversation that bends toward unity, love, & justice!
Come see us! We run until Oct. 12th
