There’s still time…. Flow is now Sat 4/12 due to rain- you have 1 more day to submit!

🚨 🌧️ FLOW event moving to Sat 4/12 due to expected water falling from the sky- we hope you can still join us Sat for our free public arts event, featuring a projection mapped mural, digital community mural, and more!

🌧️ UPDATE: Because of rain, the event is moving to Saturday, April 12!!
🚨 Something big’s happening on Hull Street. 🚨
This Friday night, The Blackwell Drip mural is going to get lit—literally. @Videometry is adding motion, color, and sound in the wildest way you’ve never seen.
Five years ago @heidetrepanier and @chrisvisions painted the "imagery of Yemaya, an Orisha from the shores of Africa, to the visage of Cole Hicks, a breathing legend in the Hip Hop community of Richmond."
Now, its sky and waves will ripple and move for one night only.
🗓️ ̶F̶r̶i̶d̶a̶y̶,̶ ̶A̶p̶r̶i̶l̶ ̶1̶1̶,̶ ̶2̶0̶2̶5̶— ☔️ changed due to rain
📆 Saturday, April 12
⏰ 6–10 PM
📍 1621 Hull St, Richmond, VA
🎟️ Free—just show up.
🎨 Want your art on the wall too?
@Sillygenius and @chrisvisions designed two coloring pages you can make your own—one based on the mural and one with graffiti-style “Blackwell” lettering. Download them, grab one at VisArts, or pick one up at the event. All submissions will be projected as part of a community montage.
⬇️ Download from our bio at @mendingwallsrva
🖍️ Tag us when you finish yours—we’d love to see it early.

Did you know that the building that hosts the@bhmva Black History Museum in Richmond Virginia is believed to be the oldest US armory for Black militia- and that it was recently removed from the department of defense’s website a historic place?
We are honored to join the Black History Museum of Virginia to commemorate the history of the Leigh Street Armory and the First Battalion Virginia Volunteers. This historic building, located in Richmond’s historic Jackson Ward, has the unique distinction of being the only armory ever built by the United States of America for Black Servicemen.
Throughout its history this building has been a place for community, learning, and pride for Richmonders: first as the home of the First Battalion, then as the Monroe School, the Monroe Center, and now the Black History Museum of Virginia.
In this historic month of Emancipation and Liberation for our city and nation, we remember this history of this space and the men and women who served our country within its walls and beyond.
Join the @reclaimingthemonument team outside the museum tonight 4/2/25 at 9pm to honor some of the soldiers and other important figures that served through the Leigh Street Armory- free!
thanks director Shakai Gullette Warren for finding the language for the text on the building and to @katherinejrva councilwoman Katherine Jordan for suggesting the projections after learning about the removal from the Virginia national guard website.

Had some fun last night illuminating this beautiful mural in Richmond, VA.
Thankful that the muralists @heidetrepanier + @chrisvisions and local artist @sillygenius were there to see it in person and share their thoughts on how the animation can evolve.
We had some great conversations about the public art created in 2020 and how its impact has shifted over time, and how we can create immersive experiences for the public in the future.
Richmond’s murals and street art have always been a huge source of inspiration, from past projects like the The Richmond Mural Project and RVA Street Art Festival and current projects like @mendingwallsrva that continue to shape the city in meaningful ways.
Public art is something people experience sometimes unconditionally, and I think it’s impact is far greater than we often give it credit for. I look forward to creating more public art in the future! We will likely have this projection up again sometime in March, I’ll follow back for details-

We are excited to be partnering with @sacred_ground_project to commemorate their 20th Annual Gabriel Gathering this weekend through light installations at the African Burial Ground in Shockoe Bottom, Friday - Monday 7pm-11pm.
This installation will feature works from @untoldrva, @the_sandy_can and @maripari9, and Networked Public Spaces.
"Each year on Oct. 10, the Sacred Ground Historical Reclamation Project (sacredgroundproject.net) of the Virginia Defenders hosts a community gathering at Richmond’s Shockoe Bottom African Burial Ground. Oct. 10 was the date in 1800 when the great slave rebellion leader Gabriel was executed at this site. We gather to honor Gabriel and all those who gave their lives in the cause of freedom, to celebrate more than 20 years of learning the history of this sacred ground and to rededicate ourselves to reclaiming and properly memorizing Shockoe Bottom, once the epicenter of the U.S. domestic slave trade."
