Remember when our fav baby studio artist, Auggie, made this print on the cusp of our transition to our *current* political hell. After the election, we found one covered in dirty tire prints in our parking lot and have kept it hung in a place of prominence.
Anywho, just looping back around on this one.

On Saturday, May 30, join Nowhere Cinema for a screening of Funeral Parade of Roses!
This transgressive Japanese film from 1969 is a landmark in queer and trans cinema. It’s chaotic. It’s beautiful. It’s maddening. It’s fluiddddd af.
🍿 Nowhere Cinema is a pop-up theater in Richmond that shows underappreciated and bizarre movies on the big screen.

In case ya missed it— we’ve extended hours for our Pizzini Press pop-up at Shop Two Three (1437 Hull street) this Friday and Saturday (11-4pm!)
More deets:
This pop-up exhibition showcases the collection of Pizzini Show Print - the 186-year-old Richmond letterpress collection that we received as a donation in 2025.
For the last year, Studio Two Three staff and members have dedicated over 2,000 hours (!!!) to cleaning, organizing, cataloging and printing this collection of type and imagery.
We’ve pulled together a fun show of type, imagery, and prints that provides a glimpse into this treasure of a collection and the fascinating story we are beginning to piece together.
We want to extend a special shout out to Zachary Montgomery (@zvchs ), a longtime Studio Two Three intern who has poured his heart (and lots of elbow grease) into organizing the show.

Thanks so much to all of the folks who packed out the community meeting in Varina last night— coming together in these ways means so much!
A summary of last night’s discussion regarding the massive expansion of the QTS data center in eastern Henrico (please add anything we’ve forgotten!)—
We appreciate Supervisor Nelson for all that he’s done for Varina— from affordable housing to important infrastructure projects. It’s not easy to represent a district experiencing so many different forces of change and demand.
This data center expansion project was approved in 2024.
Since then, the Board of Supervisors has committed to:
- no more data centers / expansion in eastern Henrico
- increasing taxes on data centers (which are still lower than they should be)
- last night Nelson agreed that they should consider higher taxation
As we sat in the meeting last night, Virginia’s data centers were all required by the DOE to operate utilizing their backup diesel powered generators. Why? Two extra hot days in May threatened to overwhelm our vulnerable power grid. Just a glimpse at the future we’re building.
According to Nelson, we cannot legally stop this project. It’s already in progress and has been moving forward with all of the necessary approvals. That’s a bummer but all is not lost & our work together continues. From our perspective, HIGH taxation is needed to curb some of the impacts of this massive data center footprint in rural Varina.
At some point, Mr. Nelson said that he takes responsibility for the decision to approve this expansion and that if it leads to the end of his term, he accepts that.
We see an opportunity for Mr.Nelson to become our strongest advocate— what do we do after a decision is made? How do we reduce the impacts of this extractive industry on our community? How do we monitor and transparently report back our experiences more broadly? How do we make sure these centers are paying their fair share? And most importantly, how do we ensure that our water isn’t being chugged by the cooling towers and that our community isn’t carrying the financial burden of power usage?
What comes next is important!

PS we’ll have 16x20 screen printed posters available at the public meeting tonight (Varina public library, 6pm)!
But we also love to see all of your handmade signs 🥹
What happens we we replace swamp & forest land with mega data centers?
🧌massive energy consumption & strain on our grids
🦇massive water consumption for those ELEVEN cooling towers (anyone else looking at our James River?)
🧟air pollution & warming of micro climates from the diesel powered generators
🐗noise pollution (imagine an ERRRRRRRRR sound humming away)
🦟the impacts they wanna lie about? Higher bills. Less water. Resource scarcity. Invisible pollution.
In the words of my 7 year old, “I wouldn’t trade the life of a single box turtle to be able to see a fake A.I. photo of myself as a king or as an old man.” I agree.☝️

IMPORTANT! Tonight (Tuesday, May 19th)! Community Meeting in Varina (6pm at the Varina Public Library). Show up & make your concerns heard about the EXPLOSIVE growth of data centers in Henrico.
Imagine— 8 million square feet of humming data centers in the swamp land and loblollies. This dystopian future is right around the corner because of a loophole that allowed QTS to expand without a public hearing.
This massive growth will include 370 diesel-fueled generators, 544 emergency generators and 11 cooling towers. Gigantic sprawling “mega centers” are a loss for everyone (except the folks making $$).
This is a Richmond issue. A James River issue. And a big issue for the kids who go to school near to this site, the forests and swamps, the animals and the future of Varina, as a whole.
Pushing back against data centers in our community is the one place where we can actively take a stance against a future cynically dominated by tech-enabled authoritarianism. So come on out!
Thanks!
(PS I added the silhouette of the Varina raccoon that has been haunting the edges of my chicken coop for months, in hopes that he’ll see this and leave us alone).

IMPORTANT! Richmond area folks please read 💝 (plz like, comment share or bookmark so this post gets better visibility- thank you!!)
Are you a lover of our loblolly pines? Our swamps and forests? OKAY! Do you HATE the idea of giant sprawling data centers siphoning off power meant for our people? Have you been watching your bills skyrocket? Are you worried about climate change?
PLEASE CONSIDER JOINING US TOMORROW evening (TUESDAY, MAY 19th at 6pm) at the Varina Library to SAY NO to the rapid expansion of data centers in Varina. Varina Supervisor Tyrone Nelson is holding a community meeting and we want to make sure our voices are heard— no new data centers.
WHY? According to news coming out this & last week (link in stories), industry giant QTM is progressing its plans to add SEVENTEEN data centers — totaling 1,100 acres— in Varina. This is 8 million square feet of data center, with 500 gas-powered generators.
This is not just a Varina issue— it’s a Richmond issue, a James River issue. Can you show up with us? Can you write your legislators?
Wanna read more- visit @montroseva ‘s most recent posts.
Thanks for reading! Please share! Please join us tomorrow. We’ll have posters and signs!

5/25 - Shin Godzilla (2016) dir. Hideaki Anno & Shinji Higuchi
Perhaps only Anno could have made something so weirdly modern, a simultaneously sincere and completely absurd anti-kaiju that begins as a nightmare bureaucratic comedy of errors then pivots to fully embrace a collectivist Japanese spirit of ingenuity, all of it a reflection of the country’s psychic fallout from Fukushima. And that’s setting aside the terrific CG version of suit-mation. One of the most fascinating and engaged films in the long history of this series.

Sensual World. Studio 23 - Richmond. 2026.
Sensual World remain one of my favorite Richmond bands of recent memory and it was great to see them again after too long a hiatus. Their songs have this rich, dense, and utterly luscious quality to them which echoes of equal parts Wipers and the dreamy pop of Ride or Slowdive. Just excellent.
