Last week the good people at FCMB and BHM called me to come speak to a room full of seasoned journalists about how they can merge their storytelling and career principles with the current climate of social media and relevance. I had a great time. In fact I was on the panel with journalists I admire like @fixayosoyombo. Because of the work we do at @thisisjoyinc I was asked about social good and its monetization. I ate it up. It’s truly at the foundation of what we do. We all need to move with the times so that we are not extinct and our message doesn’t get lost. There is room in the space for everyone.

In this session on Gender Equitable Storytelling, we explored how representation goes beyond words to the subtle choices we make like who leads, who follows, and who is seen. From challenging limiting beliefs to intentionally placing women in positions of strength, this conversation reminds us that storytelling is a powerful tool for shifting culture and expanding possibilities. Stories shape perception and who we choose to center in them matters.

By questioning why stereotypes still exist, this session challenged us to confront the patterns we rarely notice.
