An AFI Conservatory Film: “I Think I’m Going to Kill Myself” a musical comedy by @netashavitt

Feeling socially pressured and self conscious of his scrawny figure, Cam decides to face his fears and goes to the gym where one last embarrassing event pushes him over the edge.

The narrative was told through Cam’s POV so I wanted the gym to reflect how he felt about the place: intimidating and overwhelming. Achieved with the use of poisonous colours, logos and slogans with double entendres, and bulky gym equipment.

From locking a location to the shoot was a 4 day sprint and I found that drawing over the location photos the dp took was an effective way to quickly explain the design concept to the team. So thrilled to have gone through this journey with this fun group of folks!

Feeling socially pressured and self conscious of his scrawny figure, Cam decides to face his fears and goes to the gym where one last embarrassing event pushes him over the edge.

The narrative was told through Cam’s POV so I wanted the gym to reflect how he felt about the place: intimidating and overwhelming. Achieved with the use of poisonous colours, logos and slogans with double entendres, and bulky gym equipment.

From locking a location to the shoot was a 4 day sprint and I found that drawing over the location photos the dp took was an effective way to quickly explain the design concept to the team. So thrilled to have gone through this journey with this fun group of folks!

I wanted the design of the Fallout Shelter to reflect the looming pressure the protagonist, Yeltsin, was feeling. It was integral to the design to have the curved arches not just to emphasize the feeling of claustrophobia/compression, but to also be historically accurate to the visual differences between a bunker and a fallout shelter (round to withstand a nuclear attack).

I was incredible lucky and thankful to have had such a supportive team that allowed me to make this vision come to life. Here are some snippets of our love.

Being in the union for such a short time I recognize what a privilege it was to not only be one of the first people back at work but to also have a bump up the ladder, and for that I am very grateful.
