Today is the day I was born. I arrived in New York in April 2001 at the age of 7, was approved for DACA at the age of 18, and now 24 years later - this month I’ve finally received a little card that allows me to be a permanent resident of the US.

I’m proud to be an immigrant and proud to be undocumented. I’m thankful that I was granted deferred action as a child arrival. I was able to get a license and work legally, but many of those around me were struggling with under the table cash jobs. I had family members driving without licenses and putting themselves at risk just to feed their own.

Growing up this way meant living with the fear of the unknown, believing in a path to citizenship, only to feel like the light at the end of the tunnel was fading. Feeling like I missed opportunities because I had no access to FAFSA. Dreams stagnating as I was uncertain of a career path away from my family. Watching others move forward while I stood still. As an immigrant all I knew was sacrifice, since I owed it to those came here with me and those I left behind.

All in all, this green card has not given me the feeling of belonging in this country. Because in 2025 - this document is not your freedom. Any resident and “home grown” citizen is aware a document does not guarantee your welcome. So while I’m proud to take a step towards becoming a US citizen, this can never take away from my roots.

While I had the privilege to grow up in Lima - there are thousands of others who were brought here without knowing their parent’s homeland - some being months, even days old. Those kids only know one homeland and it’s a country that pledges to send them to a godforsaken facility in a foreign land - against their will and against due process.

I’m forever grateful to my wife @ambermmace who put together such a strong application that we didn’t even need to interview. I love you. MY CANON DREAM SET | Years of hard work coming to fruition, starting with the Canon 7 50mm Dream and now evolving to multiple set of rehoused vintage lenses, the journey is just beginning.

When I first started to collecting vintage lenses, I could only afford Pentax, Minolta, Takumar lenses, but I fell in love. The “vintage” look is not a special formula that only belongs to most expensive cinema lenses - it’s the formula one can create by allowing a lens’ “defects” to define your image. Nowadays modern image making looks for the flawless, pristine, almost artificial look, but most of the images we grew up with come from imperfect, gritty and worn pieces of glass.

For that reason I started a business in order to bring vintage glass to the New York market that was hard to come by. Proud to say that years later, we’ve been able to surpass expectations and bring together a collection of vintage lenses that will stand the test of time. One of these sets is the newly rehoused Canon Rangefinders aka Canon Dream Set.

Back in September, after years of collecting - we were able to put together around 40 different variations of 1960s Canon LTM Rangefinder lenses. Not all of them were easy to come by and I wanted to find a way to show off all their characteristics in one single shot. Therefore, at @greenwoodstudiosnyc the @greenwoodcine team built two scenes - high-key vs contrasty - and laid out multiple lighting sources (spotlight, fresnel, LED Panel, LED tube) to flare our glass during the shot. We then placed the lenses on a 4 foot slider with motion control movement and focus to travel through each look.

The result of this Canon Dream test allowed us to test sharpness, direct flare, breathing, focus falloff, bokeh, veiling, color temperature, female v male skin tone, low v high contrast all in ONE SHOT. Our only caveat was testing these Dream lenses in their original housings - which made it unnecessarily difficult to travel through focus planes. Safe to say we’ll be waiting for the rehoused lenses to be completed before the next one.

Nowadays modern image making looks for the flawless, pristine, almost artificial look, but most of the images we grew up with come from imperfect, gritty and worn pieces of glass.

For that reason I started a business in order to bring vintage glass to the New York market that was hard to come by. Proud to say that years later, we’ve been able to surpass expectations and bring together a collection of vintage lenses that will stand the test of time. One of these sets is the newly rehoused Canon Rangefinders aka Canon Dream Set.

Back in September, after years of collecting - we were able to put together around 40 different variations of 1960s Canon LTM Rangefinder lenses. Not all of them were easy to come by and I wanted to find a way to show off all their characteristics in one single shot. Therefore, at @greenwoodstudiosnyc the @greenwoodcine team built two scenes - high-key vs contrasty - and laid out multiple lighting sources (spotlight, fresnel, LED Panel, LED tube) to flare our glass during the shot. We then placed the lenses on a 4 foot slider with motion control movement and focus to travel through each look.

The result of this Canon Dream test allowed us to test sharpness, direct flare, breathing, focus falloff, bokeh, veiling, color temperature, female v male skin tone, low v high contrast all in ONE SHOT. Our only caveat was testing these Dream lenses in their original housings - which made it unnecessarily difficult to travel through focus planes. Safe to say we’ll be waiting for the rehoused lenses to be completed before the next one.
