when @alsilbs was asked to write a new book for BRIGADOON a few years ago, i was over the moon - i knew she would build the script out of love for the piece and love for musical theater. we had secret dreams that we would get to do a production of it together, but we knew it was probably not in the cards - it’s rare that one woman gets a chance to break new ground in this industry, but almost unheard of for two to get this kind of an opportunity.
call it fate, kismet, or divine intervention; but we got to premiere the new adaptation last night at @pasadenaplayhouse and it. was. magic. it’s crazy to see something you’ve dreamt about for years become a reality - and even crazier when the reality manages to somehow be better than the dream.
i am so, so grateful to have an artistic soulmate in @alsilbs - i am so grateful to this extraordinary company for diving in with such care and generosity; i am so grateful to @dannyfeld for giving our show its first home; and i am so grateful to the designers, stage managers, crew, and staff at pasadena playhouse - and the wonderful humans who represent the Lerner and Lowe foundation - for working tirelessly to support us these past 5 weeks.
and to get to choreograph on a stage that Agnes de Mille danced on? choreographed on? directed on?my heart is bursting. i am the luckiest woman alive. it’s almost like being in love.
if you’re in LA, get ye to the playhouse to see this beautiful production. i am so unbelievably proud of it.
