Through visits to local farmers and producers cultivating olive oil, grapes, artichokes, mulberries, wheat and other products, she is exploring how communities cultivate the land and sustain local ecosystems and ways of living. Alongside this, she has been connecting with local food communities, visiting bazaars, and walking through the forests around K2UBZ to identify endemic and edible species, while building a visual inventory of İzmir’s ecological food ecosystem through film documentation.

We’re excited to announce the fifth MATCH Residency, taking place from 9 May to 5 June 2026 at K2 Urla Breathing Zone, Izmir, Türkiye. The residency will begin in just one week—stay tuned!

This residency welcomes Flugen (Maya Aghniadis) @flugen.music and Joana Amora @amoramamora , two artists working with sound, ecology, and participatory practices.

Hosted within a 45-acre forested site, K2 Urla Breathing Zone offers a unique environment for living and working in close connection with nature—fostering exchange between artistic research and the surrounding landscape. The residency is produced and hosted by K2 Contemporary Art Center, a non-profit organisation supporting contemporary art and international cultural exchange in Izmir.
During their time in Izmir, Maya will explore sonic storytelling through encounters with local musicians, artists, and scientists, while Joana will engage with the local agroecological scene, continuing her research on living systems and collective practices.

🌿 MATCH Study Visit – Izmir 🌿
7–8 May 2026, Izmir, Türkiye

The MATCH Study Visit in Izmir, hosted by K2 Contemporary Art Association, brings together partners and artists for two days of exchange around artistic, architectural, social, and agricultural practices addressing climate change.
Through presentations, gatherings, and site visits with creatives, cultural institutions, municipalities, and NGOs, participants will share knowledge and explore local initiatives shaping a more sustainable future.
The programme will kick off at K2 Urla Breathing Zone—one of MATCH’s residency spaces—and will include visits to an olive oil museum, an urban garden, an arts collective, and an arts & design center.
Set in a city with over 8500 years of history, the visit also offers a glimpse into Izmir’s rich relationship with nature—from its turquoise Aegean coastlines to its forests, mountains, and unique biodiversity. In this Mediterranean context, local stakeholders are actively working towards climate adaptation and environmental preservation.

Deniz Villaları – Ekolojik Geçişler Sanatçı Rezidans Programı 2025 kapsamında K2 Urla Nefes Alanı’nda rezidansını tamamlayan Annika Katja Boll, “Ghost in the Shell 2.0” adlı projesinden bahsediyor.

Sanatçı, K2’de yürüttüğü saha çalışmalarında Posidonia deniz otunu spekülatif bir yapılandırmayla dijital dünyaya taşıyarak, baskı ve video işleri aracılığıyla doğa, temsil ve yokluk arasındaki gerilimi araştırıyor.

Annika Katja Boll, who recently completed her residency at K2 Urla Breathing Zone as part of the Deniz Villaları – Ecological Crossings Artist Residency Program 2025, shares insights into her project “Ghost in the Shell 2.0.”

Through field research at K2, she translates Posidonia seagrass into the digital realm through speculative reconstruction, producing prints and video works that explore the tension between nature, representation, and absence.

✨ “Deniz Villaları: Ekolojik Geçişler” – Sanatçı Rezidans Programı ✨

24 Kasım 2025’te, Ayşegül Kurtel (K2 Güncel Sanat Merkezi) Create in İzmir EXPO kapsamında düzenlenen “Konuk Sanatçı Programları ve Kentler” söyleşisini gerçekleştirdi.

Kurtel, 21 Ekim’de Institut français İzmir’de lansmanı yapılan ve ESİAD İzmir AB Bilgi Merkezi, Institut français İzmir ve Goethe-Institut İzmir iş birliğinde yürütülen Sanatçı Rezidans Programını tanıttı.

Rezidans programına seçilen sanatçılar Nermin Sena Özger ve Annika Boll de projelerini ve konuk sanatçı deneyimlerini paylaştı 🌊🎨.

@createinizmir projesinin en büyük etkinliği olan EXPO: Kapsül kapsamında, K2 Güncel Sanat Merkezi olarak 24 Kasım’da “Konuk Sanatçı Programları ve Kentler: Karşılaşmalar, Etkileşimler, İzler” başlıklı bir panel düzenledik.

Moderatörlüğünü K2 Güncel Sanat Merkezi Kurucu Direktörü Ayşegül Kurtel’in yaptığı panelde;
İKSV Cité des Arts Misafir Sanatçı Programı Proje Koordinatörü Leyla Bayrı,
Gate 27 Direktörü Burak Mert Çiloğlugil,
sanatçı Cansu Çakar,
endüstriyel tasarımcı ve deniz sanatçısı Nermin Sena Özger
ve sanatçı Annika Katja Boll konuşmacı olarak yer aldılar.

Panelde konuk sanatçı programlarının amaçları, kentlerle kurdukları ilişkiler ve hem kurumların hem de sanatçıların deneyimleri üzerine konuşuldu.

✨ We’re happy to announce the 10 artists selected to participate in MATCH: Mediterranean as the Climate Hotspot!

Out of more than 250 applications from incredibly talented artists across the Mediterranean, these artists were chosen for their powerful ideas and commitment to artistic climate action.

🌍 MATCH is a transnational arts initiative connecting artists with community gardens across five Mediterranean cities—Athens, Nicosia, Marseille, Barcelona, and Izmir—as a creative response to the climate crisis.

Over the next 18 months, the project will support the development of new artworks, promote community engagement, and build a transnational network exploring the role of culture in addressing climate change.
