What an honour! JRS was thrilled to attend the @oaarchitects Awards last night in Cambridge, Ontario alongside our collaborators Patkau Architects, receiving two prestigious awards for Kìwekì Point: The Lieutenant Governor Design Excellence Winner and an Award of Excellence.
The Jury commented that: “The project stands out for the strength of its concept and care in its detailing, from the sculpted cedar lookout to the subtle integration of safety, transforming a former colonial landmark into an inclusive and accessible public space.”
Once again, congratulations to the @ncc_ccn and our team including @patkauarchitects @eraarch @blackwellengineers, MCLD, @exp_global_inc @cimaplusca and @spearhead.ca !

On Wednesday, May 13, we celebrated the opening of Gallery Park at the corner of Dundas and McCaul, across from the AGO, marking the northwest gateway to the Relic Linear Park system.
Delivered through a park dedication by Tribute to the City of Toronto, the park brings together salvaged architectural stone relics from Guild Park, displayed within an open-air gallery, with new public artwork by Jay Havens, Tsi Nén Entyónheke (We Will All Continue to Survive). Flexible seating creates space to gather and linger throughout the day, while the illuminated artwork brings a distinct presence to the park at night.
The City of Toronto hosted an event to celebrate the new park with an address by Haudenosaunee Elder Bonnie Whitlow, followed by remarks from Councillor Diane Saxe, Liz Driver of Grange Community Association, Peter Jakovcic of Tribute Communities, City of Toronto Landscape Architect Leigh Lichtenberg, Artist Jay Havens, and JRS Founding Partner Janet Rosenberg.

Aqualuna is an AZURE Awards 2026 finalist!
We’re proud to have been the landscape architect for this striking 16-storey waterfront residence in Toronto’s Bayside neighbourhood, designed by 3XN with Kirkor Architects for Hines and Tridel.
Inspired by Lake Ontario, the building’s cascading terraces reference waves while its two towers direct all views towards the water.
Our scope included streetscapes, biodiverse green roofs with a custom wildflower mix, private terraces, and a shared sixth-floor podium amenity terrace featuring an outdoor swimming pool, raised planters, and lounging and dining/BBQ areas. The terrace’s warm wood decking is inlaid with a white marble band that traces the building’s curved geometry and is complemented by native, drought-tolerant planting suited to the waterfront environment.
The project is LEED® Platinum certified and met Tier 2 of the Toronto Green Standard. 🌿

JRS is proud to once again be a Gold Sponsor of the @1uptoronto Conference! Now in its 10th year, the 1Up Conference brings together youth from across Ontario to imagine, design, and build the future of their communities.
This year, JRS Project Leader Gabriela Gallo volunteered as a facilitator for the conference’s Design Jam Challenge, held in collaboration with the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), which invited participants to design TTC waiting spaces that are safe and accessible for all users.
Gabriela reflects on the experience:
“It was a lot of fun seeing each student step into their assigned persona and carry that perspective through from concept to physical prototyping. The ideas for TTC-designated waiting areas were imaginative and thoughtful, with a clear focus on community, sustainability, and inclusivity.
The setup itself was highly participatory and engaging-it was honestly hard to stay in my role as a facilitator at times, as I found myself wanting to jump in and take part.
It would be great to see some of these ideas make their way into future TTC designs!”

The Rock Garden Rejuvenation within the Royal Botanical Gardens is a striking renovation project that reinterprets the historic rock gardens through contemporary landscape design. Transformed by @janetrosenbergstudio, the site enhances the ecological and spatial experience through rock formations, water features, rich layers of planting and accessible circulation routes.
This heritage landscape supports biodiversity through a renewed ecosystem approach whilst preserving the natural topography; it offers visitors a powerful spatial experience that changes with the seasons. The project demonstrates that restoration is not merely about preserving the past, but can also serve as a tool for reimagining historic landscapes to meet contemporary needs.

We are pleased to announce that Kìwekì Point is a winner of the 2026 OAA Design Excellence Awards!
Kìwekì Point is a transformative collaboration between architecture and landscape, reimagining a spectacular limestone bluff in Canada’s capital for the @ncc_ccn. The design restores connections to the city through the Pìdàban pedestrian bridge and embraces the Ottawa River with a continuous perimeter walkway and biodiverse planting. Anchoring the site is Whispering Point, an iconic architectural outlook.
Here, a dramatic cantilever projects outward to capture sweeping panoramas, while a robust liner of laminated yellow cedar fins below creates a warm, human-scaled shelter. By recontextualizing historic monuments and integrating Algonquin storytelling within this new topography, the project establishes a resilient, inclusive beacon of reconciliation.

Last week, Coco Wang and Jingzhe Zhao, two JRS Junior Designers, presented to students at the University of Toronto John H. Daniels Faculty about the computational work they’ve been developing independently and in support of the Studio Research Lab (SRL) Toolkit.
Coco Wang spoke about her role in advancing parametric workflows for the SRL Toolkit using Rhino and Grasshopper. Jingzhe Zhao presented on exciting new methods for integrating machine learning into design thinking and landscape architecture.
The presentations were followed by a lively discussion about the role of computation as a medium to think, test, and design.
We’re proud of the work that Coco and Jingzhe are doing in advancing the role of computational design in professional practice!

A garden designed to make an entrance.
For this private Prince Edward County retreat, our clients—avid art collectors—asked for a front entry landscape that would be as striking and intentional as the art inside their home.
The result is a sculptural garden where bold planting, texture, and carefully composed forms create a memorable experience upon arrival.

🏆 Voted Toronto’s favourite new building (6–7 storey category) — Urban Toronto’s 12th Annual Year-End Poll.
Where the Annex meets Yorkville, 10 Prince Arthur is a terraced condominium that weaves neighbourhood history into contemporary living through the careful integration of a relocated heritage property.
🌿The landscape design draws from the neighbourhood’s historic character, translating it into above-grade terraces, an elegant streetscape along Prince Arthur Avenue, and an amenity garden courtyard with a sculptural planter and bold floral display.
🌱 The design meets Toronto Green Standard (TGS) requirements and incorporates soil cells, permeable paving, rainwater collection, irrigation reuse, and a green roof to support long-term sustainability.
A timeless addition to one of Toronto’s most storied neighbourhoods.
