Young In Tad is returning due to popular demand!

Experience the exhibition, curated by young people from the town themselves, from March at @tadcasterbarn1's new space, 43 Kirkgate - look out for more details soon!

Featuring powerful portraits, spoken word, and film, young people worked with dancer and movement artist @james_therobot, human beatboxer @testamenthomecut, and photographer Matt Storm (@msc1photography) to create a series of outstanding photographs taken in locations and places chosen by the group. It also features a sound and projection installation, alongside a postcard and spray paint wall and ‘Underground Tad’, a basement lit up by UV light with lyrics glowing on the wall alongside a soundtrack recorded by the young people.

Delivered as part of a partnership between Now Then!, Tadcaster Barn and @arcade_hello. A huge thank you to everyone involved, especially the young people themselves!

Over the last few years I’ve moved further away from teaching youth and community work because I’ve felt breakin’ and Hip Hop activity ends up being tokenistic for young people when faced with all the challenges they experience - and the disconnect left me feeling like my own teaching practice was failing my students and not making a difference, but watching the YIT young people work on their own moves, talk about their stories, eventually creating their own photo exhibition and creating and recording music and lyrics reminded me how empowering having creative outlets can be for young people when supported by a team like Tadcaster Barn. So impressed with what they created. Thank you for having me on board 🤜💥🤛
