Experimenting with the interaction between a technological entity and a person as a way to create a dialogue in a conceptual film. This audiovisual interplay revolves around the theme of memory fragmentation. How do we distinguish real memories from ones that are imagined? As makers, we questioned ourselves how the fast-paced character of our society plays a role in our ability to make lasting memories.

It was such a joy to make the music and sound design for a film that really resonated with me. So I’d like to thank my friends for this collaboration.

CHIAROSCURO: A Light in the Darkness
Site-specific installation at Milan Design Week 2025

@riveroshan created a multi-sensory design performance honouring everyday acts of light, presented against a backdrop of global uncertainty.

Inspired by the “extraordinary ordinary”—moments sparking awe, from reflections in water to resonant voices—new glass works engage in a dance of light and colour.

Where do you look for light?

The intimate 2’40” design performance features glass marquetry works and interactive light objects in dialogue with custom light choreography made in collaboration with Bram van Ravenhorst and a custom musical score by Julian Enequist that draws on Rive Roshan’s daily landscape to honour the small human and natural acts that restore, connect, and inspire us—from the sound of moving water outside their studio to vocals evocative of Persian lullabies. These vocals are performed by Mahsa Vahdat, an acclaimed singer from Iran now living in the US. Through her work as both a musician and an activist for freedom of expression, Vahdat defies decades-long bans on women singers imposed by Iranian authorities.

Vahdat’s dreamy vocals end with the Persian phrase aftab meeshavad, which means ‘The sun will rise’. The overall performance, is intended as a message of hope and empowerment.

CHIAROSCURO: A LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS

Hours: 10:00 am - 7:30 pm

Chiaroscuro (literally translating to light-dark) is a site-specific installation inspired by the extraordinary ordinary—moments that spark awe and ignite and restore us, from the sky’s vastness reflected in a drop of water, to the oscillating resonance of a chanting voice. Against the backdrop of this complex sociopolitical period—which can feel far-too-often dark—the project is intended as an offering of light, and a reminder of the beauty and power that exists within and all around us.
