LONG CAPTION ALERTTTT WE LOVE TO SEE IT
I know it was, like, two weeks ago, but I’d still like address the highkey elephant in the room: the Met lol
There‘s something about the conversation it ignited that isn’t going anyway, and has already been underway.
Spectacle isn’t substance, and we are heading somewhere new - culturally, astrologically, every which way - that’s going to ask for our full attention in a way celebrity culture was never built to hold. Because while media will have you fooled that everything is squarely about the Met, it’s not really about the Met.
So I’m letting it sharpen the work: using these moments of commercialized relevancy to have the beauty conversations I actually want to be in, with the people I actually want to hear from.
Because where does “relevancy” live? In the creativity, the artistry, the mastery behind what we see on the red carpet and on the stage. It’s that same obsession we end up having for every behind-the-scenes detail of a favorite film, performance, or tour.
And in a world where industry news, brand campaigns, and CEO features run the conversation — if there’s room for that, there’s room for FULL COVERAGE.
So the Met Gala isn’t the thing. It’s the catalyst to get to the thing.
Talking to beauty artists about life, expression, technique, pop culture, and the politics of it all... that’s what I’m inspired by and into. That’s how I keep my core intact. It’s also just so fun.

Maybe the magic is no longer just the Met itself. Maybe it’s the conversation around it. 🤔
During our Morning After the Met live show, Recho Omondi (@omondi) unpacked why the Met no longer feels as untouchable as it once did and why celebrity culture feels different today.
But, even still @darian explained that there’s something special about experiencing it in community. Discussing the looks, appreciating the artistry, and sitting in a room full of people who genuinely love fashion, beauty, and creativity.
What do you think? Has the Met Gala lost some of its fantasy or do you still love the spectacle every year?
“We’re gonna have to Swarorvski this up!”. With that vision in mind, she was able to create @serenawilliams’ gold-foiled XXXL stiletto nails for the Met.
