Here is what AAP students in Rome have been up to in the field!
Cornell in Rome offers students an opportunity to study architecture, art, and planning in situ as they explore the past, present, and future in the city and its surroundings.
Images:
1. CRP faculty Jenni Minner and students attend a tour led by Natale Carapallese, the President of Milan's 5th Municipio in Milan, with the Prada Foundation building in the reflection.
2. CRP students travel to the roof of the Duomo in Milan (top image). Students explore the Porta Romana district (bottom image).
3. Students visit Alberto Burri's artwork at Fondazione Palazzo Albizzini Collection Burri in Città di Castello.
4. As part of Introduction to Drawing, Art faculty Luca Padroni takes students around Rome to sketch. Pictured here is Lorenzo Marini's "Futurpioggia" on display in the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome.

Three powerful looks at urban transformation in Napoli during the Cornell in Rome program field trip to Southern Italy. Urban and Regional Studies students, Dr. Jenni Minner, and Dr. Fabrizio Felici visited sites of hope and urban change throughout the Naples region.
A tour of the San Giovanni a Teduccio neighborhood was led by Giorgia Arillotta, an urban planning researcher pursuing a PhD at the University of Naples Federico II.
There was a visit to a powerhouse of community social organizing and arts in an adaptively reused ex-Orphanage Filangieri led by Dr. Nicola Capone.
In Scampia, CRP planners met with elected officials, including Nicola Nardella, president of Municipio 8, Dr. Gilda Berruti, a professor of urban planning at the University of Naples Federico II, and a city councilor.

At A Brighter Bing: Illuminating Our City Through Reuse: Binghamton and Vestal high school and Cornell students pitched proposals to an audience of elected officials and community members. This included creative proposals for @lumafestival to include projections that narrate local history and the potential for preservation, adaptive reuse and deconstruction and for the City of Binghamton to adopt a Deconstruction and Reuse resolution.
“Sustainability and circularity are at the heart of what we do. We are passionate about finding ways to reduce waste, reuse resources, and make a real difference for the environment. We know that meaningful change doesn’t happen in a vacuum… that is why we felt it was so important to connect with our elected officials.” - Jordan Prince.
We are grateful to have the opportunity to answer questions from NY Senator Lea Webb and City Council members Kinya Middleton and Nate Hotchkiss. Thank you to Anna Warfield @annawarfieldart and the parents and community members who attended. Many thanks to the Phelps Mansion Museum.

We are about circulating inspiration & forging youth connections between Binghamton and Ithaca — this Saturday high school students from Binghamton and Vestal High Schools involved in Cornell Urban Research to Action - Youth (CURTA-Y) came to Ithaca to learn about breathing new life into old, historic buildings at Southworks and plan an upcoming community event in Binghamton.
Robert Lewis of @shift_capital led everyone on an expert tour of plans to repurpose the massive industrial site into Southworks. We saw @ithacamurals painting new murals and saw the new home for @foundinithaca
Later we met at the Cornell Department of City and Regional Planning HQ to work on an upcoming event called A Brighter Bing: Illuminating our City through Reuse, planned for Nov 15.
The group gathered advice from Felix Heiselof the Circular Construction Lab and Andrew Boghossian, Deconstruction Coordinator at Finger Lakes Reuse.
It was thrilling to hear ideas generated by CURTA-Y team for Binghamton and glad we could meet in Ithaca to plan a November community event at the @phelpsmansionmuseum
CURTA-Y is a program of the Just Places Lab. August Guba is this year’s program director of CURTA-Y, graduate of BHS and a sophomore in the Urban and Regional Studies program. Cornell students in Dr. Minner’s Circular Urban Research Workshop are running the program.
Thank you to all participants and to Cornell AAP for a Community Engaged Impact grant to support this work.

In September, CRP’s first-year master’s students traveled with faculty and staff to New York City for the annual Fall Field Trip. Using the Gensler Family AAP NYC Center as a homebase, groups traveled around Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn to meet with public and private sector planners as well as community organizations to sample the breadth and depth of the field of planning.
