“We shot 5219 push 2, knowing that when graded to black & white we could get even more contrast in the grade. We liked the idea of letting the film stock get grainy while letting sections fall into pitch-black. My gaffer Nick Durr and I had a light moving through the neighborhood exposed at 3 stops over key to really make it feel bright but knowing that the negative would hold onto the detail still at the top.” DP Bobby Pavlovsky

“We shot 5219 push 2, knowing that when graded to black & white we could get even more contrast in the grade. We liked the idea of letting the film stock get grainy while letting sections fall into pitch-black. My gaffer Nick Durr and I had a light moving through the neighborhood exposed at 3 stops over key to really make it feel bright but knowing that the negative would hold onto the detail still at the top.” DP Bobby Pavlovsky

“In natural daylight, film is the only medium that can really capture the world as you see it without a big fuss. Our day exteriors used no lighting, only mirrors and bounces, shot on 5207.

Capturing the feeling of a dim bar was an entirely different approach. We opted for a bit of tungsten sources just to break up the red bar lighting, slightly underexposing and printing the film down in the grade, which helped us still retain the detail we wanted in the shadows. It was important to shoot bar interiors that actually felt dark and not overly lit, shot on 5219 push 1.” Director Ramez Silyan

“In natural daylight, film is the only medium that can really capture the world as you see it without a big fuss. Our day exteriors used no lighting, only mirrors and bounces, shot on 5207.

Capturing the feeling of a dim bar was an entirely different approach. We opted for a bit of tungsten sources just to break up the red bar lighting, slightly underexposing and printing the film down in the grade, which helped us still retain the detail we wanted in the shadows. It was important to shoot bar interiors that actually felt dark and not overly lit, shot on 5219 push 1.” Director Ramez Silyan
