DON CARLOS - ALONE (1991)

Don Carlos: “I went in the studio with Luca Martegani and we started working together. To begin with, the ideas were a bit confused, so for at least a year we didn’t actually finish anything. Then one day he was jamming on the keyboard and I said: ‘Stop! Let’s record it.’ I loved what he was playing. And from that initial idea, I built up the track with a sax sample taken from a record I had, then added the bassline. After that I started looking for a label and nobody wanted it. One day I called the number written on an Irma Records 12-inch and they asked me to come to Bologna with the track, so they could listen to it. They liked it and released it on one of their sub-labels, Calypso Records.”
