‘Imposter Syndrome’ gets talked about a lot in the creative industries… but what if we’re framing it completely the wrong way?

On this week’s episode of the @accessvfx podcast, @thekatelander discusses the idea of reframing Imposter Syndrome as the ‘Imposter Effect’, asking not ‘what’s wrong with me?’ but ‘what’s causing me to feel this way?’

The conversation explores comparison culture, self-worth, burnout, pressure and the dangerous overlap between creative work and personal identity.

One particularly sobering moment comes from Manie Moolman from @filmtvcharity sharing that 64% of people surveyed across the screen industries are considering leaving due to poor mental health.
