How to send a VFX shockwave through the streets of London ⚡️

Our favorite sequence from Doctor Who episode “The Star Beast,” where a rocket ship’s dagger-drive thrusters cause a massive crack through London’s streets, sending shockwaves through the city. The VFX team used a combination of real on-location plates, CG city simulations, and practical effects to create the almighty ground rupture.

Based on the bestselling phenomenon, Remarkably Bright Creatures—starring Academy Award winner Sally Field, Lewis Pullman, and the voice of Alfred Molina as Marcellus the octopus—swims onto Netflix May 8.
