ExoGen Aus wrapped for another year! Stars category for the first time!

Not much time to prep this one but I’ve loved this @tanerelle song forever & it felt good to create to it & feel it move through me.

It also felt good to just dance like me in my own way - a bit sensual, a bit celestial, always slinky.

My goal with this piece was to do less, slow down, milk each moment & bring people into my world.

Imperfections are there of course but performing is not about perfection, it’s about connection, expression & being witnessed by your people 🦋

And honestly magic happens when you can let go & be present, even if technicality isn’t perfect.

Thank you @kylie_slaystudios for another impeccable event, you always make everyone feel so comfortable & organisation & quality is always on point 🙏🏼

Thank you @lulu__moves for filming (love hearing your support in the audio) & @annabridgetbarrettdesigns for the gorgeous costume.

First time in Stars Category which felt special & the talent was just wow! Thank you lovely judges for awarding me Best Legwork ✨

Watch to the end to see my version of the yummy move @dorisarnoldpoledancer taught me in Bali ✨

If you enjoy, pls share, it’s always appreciated 🙏🏼

🥇Pro Flow at @exoticgenerationworlds

I had a strong vision for this piece & am pretty satisfied with how it turned out. I wanted, clean, minimal & pure, with dramatic lighting & a look of floating through space.

Movement wise I didn’t gift myself as much time as I should have for preparation so I decided to do what felt easeful to me. Just my usual favourites. Of course I’m trying not to get in my monkey mind & nitpicking all the things that could have been better if I’d done more prep.

I didn’t choreograph to the song due to shortchanging myself with time, but I trusted that I knew this song well enough to just let it move me through the sequence & to be able to hit some accents in a way that felt natural.

Thank you everyone for your lovely messages, I really appreciate all the support & loved seeing everyone’s creations.

Thank you @annabridgetbarrettdesigns for the amazing fit & @thevideochick for helping me bring my dystopic space cowgirl fantasy to life with your skill behind the camera.

If you’re wondering where this was filmed, can you believe it was @sanctum_movement - transformed with looottttssss of sticky tape, 20m of black fabric & some strategically placed lights. It took @thevideochick & I a couple of hours to set everything up but it was worth it to create the drama 😌

Feels good to have filmed this special piece at @sanctum_movement just a couple of weeks before it burned down 🥺

All my favourite things - static rotations, handstands & ofc ending in my favourite airwalk 🦋

When people say low flow doesn’t require strength 🧐

Couldn’t resist sharing more film moments. I love the way @gineenicole35mm shoots with such intention & artistry.

Honestly it was hard to carve out time & energy to do a shoot with all the retreat things going on - I need to feel relaxed & centred to enjoy a shoot, which can be a bit tricky when managing logistics of an event alongside teaching.

And I’m absolutely that person that goes blank & completely forgets everything she knows when the camera comes out 😂

But I’m so glad we made the time on the very last day of 3 retreats to do a shoot at @sanctum_movement

I usually don’t like the results of photoshoots I do but Ginée is honestly one of the few who truly captures capture me just how I want to be seen.

I will treasure these @sanctum_movement moments always 🫶🏾

After @sanctum_movement burned down last year I wasn’t even sure I would rebuild.

I loved the beautiful space we had, but I was tired from running it alone & to be honest I didn’t think I’d be able to recreate the same cosy, warm vibe we had in a new, industrial space.

I couldn’t bear the thought of dancing or teaching in a cold, vacuous, white walled warehouse.

But seeing these photos makes me realize that we managed to stay true to the spirit of the old Sanctum in the new space. In fact we elevated it. Made it even better.

What rebuilding has taught me about business & life is that whenever I feel uncertain, I have to lean in HARD to what makes me different. Even when that feels scary, which it often does.

The curved mirrors, the red doors, the lime washed wall, the black floor, the dim lighting. There were so many moments when it would have been soooo much cheaper & easier for us to make more conventional choices. To follow trends & play it safe. White walls, white floors, coloured lights.

But doubling down on what feels authentic is what has made the studio a place that people from around the world want to visit. A place that feels like home for so many.

To become iconic, in business, in our dance, in spaces we create - we must trust ourselves, and our vision, even when people think we’re crazy. We have to lean into our weirdness. Supercharge it.

We have to trust that the right people will find us & love us because they are that special brand of weird too.

Love being on the new @sanctum_movement journey with @estheralexdances & @madelaneknowles & all our incredible supporters along the way.

CDMX moments from April 📸

Some work (preferably in parks or rooftops), lots of dance, many tacos & totopos, countless Mezcal samplings & all around great people.

Yes I selfishly created a retreat in CDMX just because it’s a country I fell in love with & needed a reason to go back.

Basically that’s been my strategy for the last ten years. 58 retreats in - seems to be working ☺️

Self-practice is a HUGE part of developing as a dancer.

Expand your movement vocabulary in classes, integrate everything during self-practice.

If I could go back & tell baby dancer me anything it would definitely be to create time to practice, revise & play.

It’s that extra time spent on refining details & exploring how new movements live in you that will move you toward artistry.

Felt great to have a founder dance in the Sanctum sunshine today ☀️

Even though we own a business together & basically live here it’s surprisingly rare that we get to just hang out together!

Freedom has always been my highest value & travel has always been a huge part of my identity.

I remember as a kid listening to my mum’s crazy travel stories (like traveling alone through the Middle East in the 70s!) & imagining the big world outside the small town I grew up in.

I worked & saved for an overseas school trip in my senior year of high school & as soon as I graduated I moved to the other end of the country, not to escape but to discover.

Ever since day 1 in my biz I wanted to create a life that allowed me to travel because it’s such a big part of who I am.

And here we are after 12 years in biz - I have a global, fully remote team & create retreats all around the world. My online studio is filled with students from countries I dreamed of visiting as a kid.

Every year I visit Indonesia, and this year so far I’ve spent time in Japan & Mexico too, with family as well as for work.

With Jesse & River I’ve lived in El Salvador & we just settled on a little piece of paradise in front of our favourite surf spot in Sumbawa (excited!).

I have a little giggle because I have truly created the global, traveling life I dreamed of all those years ago. It’s taken time & hasn’t always been easy ofc - honestly at times people have thought & told me I’m crazy!

But honestly it makes me both proud & grateful - for all the places I’ve been, the peak moments travel has brought me & the incredible humans I’ve met. But also just because I’ve been true to myself & owned what I really wanted.

Anyhoo here’s some Greece film moments from a retreat research trip a while back 🇬🇷

So much to share coming off the back of 3 heels retreats - my heart & camera roll are so full, but I don’t feel quite ready to share. There are so many beautiful memories I want to hold just for me for now. I’m truly an introvert & am still coming back to centre after a beautifully intense couple of months 🌺

In the meantime here’s a slinky @sanctum_movement moment I snuck in during a fun jam with @lolaograce @ginee.nicole.spins@marika_adrianna

Flowing at the beautiful @sanctum_movement with two of the flowiest movers 🦋

SO inspired after learning so much from the beautiful @indipoledances & @lolaograce ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 very grateful to learn so much from women who have been a massive inspiration in my journey as a dancer. To be an amazing dancer is one thing and to share your art so openly with everyone else is another 💫

Still going through all of my videos from the weekend @indipoleretreats but this freestyle definitely meant a lot to me 🫶🫶
