What began as a grassroots movement to challenge visibility has evolved into a nationally recognized organization building sustainable pathways for storytellers, executives, and creatives across the industry.

This 35th anniversary is more than a celebration—it is a testament to the power of sustained ecosystem-building. As the industry faces rapid transformation, CAPE remains committed to expanding opportunity, strengthening leadership tracks, and building an equitable future where authentic API stories are not the exception, but the norm.

On Thursday, June 18, it will be my great joy and honor to cohost a Lead With Kindness book celebration with the Coaltion of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment! We’ll be at the beautiful creative space and in the community of Rideback Ranch, where I’m a mentor and have spoken to their fellowship cohort previously.

The event will also raise money for CAPE and its programming, including this summer‘s upcoming annual CAPE Showrunners Incubator, which I helped found and am co-chairing this year with the iconic Kelvin Yu.

Joining me on stage for the evening will be my friend and former Nancy Drew colleague @rjhatanaka (now a series regular on Criminal Minds: Evolution) to discuss how kindness can rewrite Hollywood.

Oscar-nominated French Iranian filmmaker, illustrator and novelist Marjane Satrapi has passed away at the age of 56.

Satrapi is best known for her autobiographical graphic novel “Persepolis” depicting her childhood and early adult years in Iran and Austria during the Iranian Revolution. She adapted and directed (alongside Vincent Paronnaud) into an animated feature film (released 2007) which garnered recognition from the Academy Awards, Annie Awards, BAFTA, Cannes Film Festival and more! She has wrote and illustrated 9 books (excluding contributions to anthology) over the course of her lifetime and has also adapted her graphic novel, “Chicken with Plums”into a live-action film. As a filmmaker, she a directed the British film RADIOACTIVE (2019) starring Rosamund Pike as well as the black comedy psychological horror film THE VOICES (2014) starring Ryan Reynolds.

@lizziesarge and @take_me_home_film has come a long way from the Julia S. Gouw Short Film Challenge to it’s NY premiere at @Tribeca this weekend (June 6!) after winning the @att Untold Stories pitch competition. And our partner @janetyangofficial has been along in the ride.

Building upon the CAPE New Writers Fellowship, the CAPE​ Showrunners Incubator provides ​upper-level writers with ​the opportunity to receive exclusive mentorship and real-world training and education to become successful showrunners for series television.
