We are so excited to congratulate Courtney Mock who was named “8 APIs in Entertainment” by @Variety and @goldhouseco. Courtney currently serves as SVP, Scripted Television Development at @lionsgate and is an alum of the CAPE Leaders Fellowship in 2019. Currently she is working on the adult animated series “Midnight Sun”, a TV adaptation of “Twilight” and developing the English-language adaptation series of Park Chan-wook’s “Old Boy” among other projects. @lionsgatetv

This API Heritage Month, we’re spotlighting the power of Asian and Pacific Islander representation on screen. Our study with @capeusa found that across 150 top films from 2010 to 2024, 7.4% of all characters were API. But there was a statistically significant — though modest — increase in API characters across all types of roles over the time period.

Characters like Madame Morrible in "Wicked" are helping shift who gets to hold authority, complexity, and narrative weight on screen, and expanding the range of stories where API characters are seen, heard, and centered.

For MOTHER KNOWS BEST, Kiel directed the horror thriller written by John Argall and produced by @kerry.warkia. The film stars a majority Māori and Pacific cast. The film also stars @iamrhonamitra, @kecahu, @jaydendaniels__, @ariaana_osborne, @JamesRolleston, @dkoloamatangi, @VinnieBennett, @kawa_f_r, and Eve Palmer.

MOTHER KNOWS BEST follows Talia (Adams), who, after surviving a near fatal encounter in the Pacific, gives birth to a premature daughter whose existence appears tied to an ancient prophecy. Talia travels to the remote New Zealand estate of her partner’s powerful and secretive family, but what begins as an uneasy Christmas reunion quickly reveals itself to be something far more disturbing. As she digs deeper, she uncovers a terrifying connection between her daughter, a forgotten Pacific mythology and a sinister order that will stop at nothing to reclaim what they believe belongs to them.
