This is the last film I shot in the Midwest about two years ago.

Central Illinois was an interesting place; it was quite easy to shoot film because of the easy access to locations and the fact that no permit was required.

However, it was a true filmmaking desert where it was hard to find good equipment and a well-trained crew.

Filmmaking was more like community-building and just a bunch of friends trying to make something. Looking back, I am still proud of what we could achieve with extremely limited resources. And limitations did inspire creativity.

I cherish and miss the time I spent in Illinois, simple and fun.

PREMIERE NIGHT for Wuxing Warriors: An Asian American Epic!
In 2023, Amy and I began this project as a followup to our first narrative short Wuxing Warriors 1. Three years and 63 VFX shots later, we’re surrounded by an unlikely community that took root within the silly machine of an overly ambitious student film. Taking Wuxing 2 to the finish line was so creatively draining (as is any baggage of an old project). Yet, over the years of post-production hell, I watched our lives unfold, and Wuxing 2 became an inciting event that rippled into the careers, friendships, and relationships of our cast and crew. I’m beholden to this crew that came to set every day, fully engaged and genuinely excited for what we were creating. Your time and contributions have meant the world to me and I’m grateful to those who describe Wuxing 2 as the project that unlocked their fascinations.

Alas, here are the final release dates:
🏮ACT I - Sunday, 1/4/2026
⚜️ACT II - Sunday, 1/11/2026
🪾FULL FILM - Sunday, 1/18/2026
See Wuxing Warriors: An Asian American Epic on YouTube!

Special thanks for the event:
• Amy Chen @aczy2002 for, once again, being the mastermind of executing every detail

FOMO
(noun) anxiety that an exciting or interesting event may currently be happening elsewhere, often aroused by posts seen on social media.

I recently started my MFA in Film Production at @usccinema ! I made this short for my E2 assignment, with the help of my locked-in trio-mates @toni_willis_ and @stevenqiu0926 , and starring the bombastic @michelle.jones_lee of @uscsda ! Really excited about the amazing artists I’m meeting here and looking forward to finding my narrative voice.

Direction, Cinematography, and Editing by Daniel Zhang
Co-Director and Gaffer: Toni Willis
Talent: Michelle Jones Lee
