In the search for economic models that constitute an alternative to extractivist modes of production, I met farmers from a Sicilian consortium, which became vital to the video installation “Slo-Mo Visions of Refusal of Unfulfilled Promises.” An installation that is as much about the film as it is about its own conditions of possibility, such as the sun, time, and support structures in various forms. All of these elements became protagonists. Disrupted temporalities reflecting the crisis-worn reality, the sun permeating the green net, a transformed fossil fuel that carries the name (C2H4)n, or fragments of the script that fell out of the film and unfolded in space.

Earlier this year, Giulia Colletti wrote a text about my work ‚Slo-Mo Visions of Refusal of Unfulfilled Promises‘.
Thank you, @collettigiulia for your text „Not to Solve, but to Stay“ and for creating a contextual framework that further unfolds the space that my video installation opens up.
Thanks to @akbild for the one-year scholarship, to @frederikesperling for the mentorship, and to @barbara.pflanzner for taking such good care of the program and publication in which the text was published.

High Mix Low Volume, 2025
High Mix Low Volume is composed of objects manufactured in the neighbourhoods’ tiny town factories (machi-kōba), objects from the exhibition space’s storage that were returned after de-installation, small things from capsule vending machines (gacha) and pencil drawings.
Machi-kōba is a form of production that is still strongly present in Tokyo‘s neighbourhood of Arakawa, where the exhibition space (the architecture office of studio gross) is located. Machi-kōbas juxtapose the place of production with the home, often producing highly specialised items, as a supplier for large-scale industrial processing.
The title and one of the drawings refer to the text „Technical Expertise and Communist Production“ by Nick Chavez.
The work was part of the group show Kokone @studio_gross , hosted and facilitated by @dianabarbosagil - thank you!

Agency for Material Transformation is a framework in which a set of tools and methods informed by, and in exchange with, a specific bioregion are applied sculpturally.
In this case, the location was a recently bankrupt spinning mill in the textile region of Hof (Germany) and its surrounding bioregion. The latter also encompasses the infrastructural network whose repetitive processes shape and change the area over time. Through a concrete examination of work, materials, resources and value creation, the exhibition provides a speculative framework against the backdrop of material transformation in the region.
Concept and realization: Vik Bayer and Michael Reindel
Works in the exhibition: Vik Bayer, Michael Reindel, @karlazipfel , Hannelore Buchheit, @jonasaumueller , Weberei Georg Chr. Wirth GmbH & Co. KG, José Fernandez
Commissioned by Verbindungslinien BBK Bayern, with funding from the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts. @bbk_bayern

Agency for Material Transformation is an exhibition and a discursive space that takes place in the canteen of a former spinning factory in Hof, Germany. The Agency, initiated by the artists Vik Bayer and Michael Reindel, takes the material change happening in the region as a starting point for artistic work. For years, the Franconian Forest has been in a process of dying due to extreme drought and the resulting expansion of the bark beetle. Two years ago, Amazon inaugurated a new fulfillment center, which has been operating continuously in three shifts ever since. Local environmentalists have made it their mission to save one of the oldest surviving species on Earth from extinction.
Moving within this web of information and engaging with the people and the region’s environment, the exhibition responds artistically to these circumstances. The canteen of the spinning factory, which went bankrupt only a few months before the opening of the exhibition, becomes a space for infrastructural speculation: How else could we organize? What else could we produce?
Thanks to @bbk_bayern, BBK Verbindungslinien and Bayrisches Staatsministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst for supporting and financing this project.

Diana Barbosa Gil concludes her residency in Tokyo by inviting all the artists, some children of the neighborhood, local craftspeople, and others she encountered during her stay to participate in an exhibition. She transforms Studio GROSS into a space for exchange, where local craft, contemporary art, chance encounters, and trust come together to hopefully enrich us. The program features performances, objects, textile pieces, ceramics, walks to the residency, and select readings exploring themes of growth, women’s rights, rest, sleep, a city made by children from Arakawa, misunderstandings, and disasters.
