Finally, we have come to that time of year when we get to witness this beautiful dance in the sky, as the sun sets all the way down Englefield Road. The great thing is you can do it right from the comfort of a bench outside our pub, or peering out the window from a stool inside, whilst the light fades. Sometimes it’s the simple things that can bring you joy and peace.

Come down and enjoy the pretty colours, perfectly timed with our cocktail deal. 2 for £14 any cocktail. Including our famous @wearemirchi rum punches. (2 for £12 Aperol Spritz.) 6-9pm. Everyday. Easy 🌅💕

The Haggerston
📍438 Kingsland Rd, London E8 4AA
🚇 Haggerston
🍺 £6.20 Paulaner

The Haggerston sits on the border between Dalston and Haggerston in Hackney, East London. The nearest station is Haggerston.

This pub dates back to 1802 and was originally called The Swan. It was rebuilt in the mid-nineteenth century, and the plinth at the top of the building still bears its former name.

Over the years it has operated under several names, including ‘Richmonds’ and ‘Uncle Sam’s’, before becoming The Haggerston in 2008.

This is a one-bar pub with rustic, traditional charm. The servery is to the right with a marble-topped counter. In the right corner sits the old Joanna; to the left, a DJ booth; and opposite are intimate pew-style booths. The decor includes a boarded floor, exposed brick walls, and an eclectic mix of photos, signs, and mirrors.

Upstairs is a function room, traditionally decorated and complete with its own bar. A standout feature for me was a superb black-and-white photo of the brothers who ran the pub for many years. At the rear is a partially covered beer garden, with more outdoor seating at the front.

The beer selection is excellent, offering premium lagers, local independent brews, and one cask ale from @fivepointsbrew .I went for a Paulaner, a personal favourite—top pint, average price. No food is served, but there are plenty of bar snacks if you’re peckish.

I arrived at 2pm on a mild Saturday in November. The pub was quiet, chilled, and set to a superb soul and jazz soundtrack. Service was first class; the team were friendly and personable. I even received a guided tour from the Guv’nor, who has been here for ten years and is an absolute gent.

This pub really comes alive at night, with live piano on Wednesdays and Thursdays and DJ sets on Fridays and Saturdays. A true institution here is The Alan Weekes Jazz Quintet, which has performed every Sunday for over 25 years.

A fiercely independent pub and a joy to visit. The beer is well chosen, the setting intimate, and the team here are some of the best in the business. I left this boozer with a big smile. I 100% recommend you visit.

@artiessarniesis exactly what a proper sarnie spot should be. No gimmicks. No mad ingredients fighting for attention. Just unreal quality produce, done properly. 👌

We basically worked our way through the whole menu and somehow every single one slapped 👋
🥪 🐟 HENDERSON FISH FILET
crispy fish goujon, american cheese, caper + lemon dill mayo combo was ridiculous
🥪 🐷 IBERICO KATSU ⭐️
OUR FAVOURITE.
This thing is honestly insane. Panko pork collar, apple tonkatsu sauce, pickled mooli… sweet, crispy, savoury perfection. Haven’t stopped thinking about it since.
🥪 🇮🇹 LA SOVRANA
elite Italian deli vibes. Tuscan salami, prosciutto cotto, caciocavallo, olives, chilli relish… absolutely quality.
🥪 🐓 BLACK PEPPER FRIED CHICKEN
fermented chilli sauce + peanuts + fried chicken = game over. Serious contender for second place.
🥪 🥩 HG STEAK SARNIE
grilled skirt steak, onions, melted caciocavallo, buttery crusty bread… stupidly good.
Honestly every single sarnie was a 10/10, but when you go, the Iberico Katsu is NON-NEGOTIABLE. 🤌
At £12.50 each, the move is definitely to go halves with a mate so you can try a few — you won’t regret it. 🥪 🔥
📍located Inside @thehaggerston on Kingsland Road — ideal for the Hackney crew.
🍺 Reef House on tap too, which is always a bonus.
100% TDS approved 🤝

🥩🥩ATTENTION - STEAK SARNIE REEL DROP🥩

A word of warning - I made this video, so go easy on me haha.
Camera - @patwillls on an iPhone 3 :P
Cameo - Otis.

Alright, alright alright. Here it is, The @hgwalter steak sarnie. 130/140g of premium Angus Hereford flank steak - reared in Raynham Estate, in Norfolk - marinated in honey, soy, garlic and black pepper, grilled onions, some nostalgic Kerry gold butter. Quickly seared, sliced, then hit hard on the griddle to rest in a toasted crusty torp, with a very delicate caciocavallo cheese, a touch of worcestershire & paprika steak sauce - this steak sarnie has been a smash hit and it deserved a little homemade video, because we’re mostly home made. Come get some.
