This is a short film I did with Abigail Mosier, shot August 2025 in the middle of a 100 degree heatwave at Fidget Space in Philadelphia PA

I wanted to try doing something on digital video that was similar to 16mm film I made 25 years ago back at U Arts. The idea was to breakdown the dance performance into a series of different shots that highlighted each of her movements... and I think this turned out pretty well. There's also a 4K version of this on the YouTube page

The next H-O-T show is Saturday, April 25, 2026 8:00pm (Doors at 7:30pm) at Fidget, 1714 North Mascher St., 4th Floor, Philadelphia, PA 19122

Originally debuted in 2013, H-O-T is a curated space for improvisational movement, experimental sound, and boundary-pushing performance. Curators Loren Groenendaal and Flandrew Fleisenberg are thrilled to bring this series back to the community, featuring a mix of incredible local and touring talent.

Performers for the 4/25/26 show include Philadelphia-based Dancers Loren Groenendaal, Kimya Imani Jackson, Kayliani Sood, Seven Tackes, and Mauri Walton and Philadelphia-based Musicians Flandrew Fleisenberg (Percussion), Max Glazier (Percussion), A.J. Khaw (piano), Bhob Rainey (sax), and Abram Taber (Electric Bass).

This show was curated by Loren Groenendaal (me, the person who usually writes the Vervet Dance and Free Fleet posts) and is the director of Vervet Dance. Self promo can be challenging, but I really hope you come on to the show! We're really excited about it, there's 3 semi-improvised/semi-composed works- 2 by myself and 1 by Adam Kerbel.

"Be[ ]ing" has a gap in the title because we don't really know what being will be[com]ing as it's about be[ ]ing in the unknown, being in that gap and discovering how the gap is filled, expressed in the moment. What will we be be[com]ing? Be[liev]ing? I bet we will be Be[guil]ing! I doubt that we have much Be[ekeep]ing or Be[dspr]ing, but you never know! This is the fun of improvisation- it's a once in a life-time experience never to emerge again- so playful and curious and this particular work is also grounded, subtle, and somatic with inspiration from Nancy Stark Smith's Underscore, my collaboration with Megan Wilson @sun_pearl_me in the Overlapping Kinespheres festival (2016), and Contact Improvisation in general.

We'll also be showing "Render" which is a performance I have been dreaming on for a while and finally tried out ideas in the @freefleetbyfreefleet Wednesday Night class to quick and easy delight, so soon it will be on stage! "Render" is another process-oriented work in that the art is being made as it is performed and the instructions to do so are part of the art making. We are rendering, making, unmaking and remaking as we go with movement, sound and text. 

I'm delighted to have the following artists @stevedavitmusic, @miryam.moves, @abigail_mosier, @paulmatteson_, @mwstortz, @chaworthdance and @jock_witch in my cast!
