On Mother’s Day

Sending love to all of our Terrys who are mothers, to the mothers of our Scholars, and to all those who have stepped into this role when needed.

Our hearts go out to those who have lost or been separated from their mothers in any way and to those mothers who have experienced loss. We know this is not always an easy day for everyone.

This week, I had the honor of visiting Horizon High School to present two of the 2026 Terry Scholarships on behalf of the Terry Foundation.

As a 2020 Terry Scholar, I know firsthand what this opportunity represents. The Terry Scholarship is a last-dollar, full-cost-of-attendance award that supports students who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership, and a strong commitment to service. It is not only an investment in education, but in the long-term potential of students to lead and contribute to their communities.

Thank you. Thank you a million times over for the opportunity you have given me. I learned, laughed, and loved throughout the past 4 years of undergrad all thanks to the support you have given myself and my fellow Terry Scholars.

As a student on scholarship I understand how making “every semester count” can be very stressful. I’ve felt lost, overwhelmed, and inferior at times, but the Terry Foundation team was there every step of way showing unwavering support. Thank you to Franco, Mae, Chad and the many many advisors who have dealt with my many major challenges and mini breakdowns.

Because of the Terry Foundation I was able to explore UTA to the fullest extent. I served in leadership positions all around campus and event worked for different departments as well. I jumped from major to major to find what it was that I truly wanted to study. I joined an amazing fraternity where I met my brothers for life. I become a mentor to many around me. I found love. I discovered my passion for research and became a McNair Scholar. I learned how to drive. I moved into my first apartment. I got on a plane for the first time. All these accomplishments small and large have all been thanks to the Foundation.

Reflecting on my undergraduate experience is difficult as I can’t believe it’s coming to an end. I truly cherished each and every moment and every single person who entered my life during this time, you have helped mold me to the person I am.

As I prepare to walk the stage this May and pursue my Masters degree in the Fall, I am left speechless. There are no words to express how grateful I am to the @terryfoundation for giving me a path to find myself and further my education.

Terry Give Back Day, March 22nd, is a celebration of the many ways Terry Scholars give back to the world around them.

The Terry Community is invited to participate from anywhere in the world by performing acts of service and philanthropy.

2026 Goals:

322 Examples of Terrys giving back
Participate through service or
donating to the Terry Scholars Fund

Participation from at least 35 states
Let’s beat last year’s total of 26 states and Mexico!
Can we get another country added to our total?

Participation from all Terry award years and universities

As we celebrate Give Back Day, we also look forward to the beginning of Terry Interviews next week! 150 Terry Interview Panelists will interview 534 high school seniors for this year’s Terry Scholarships. We look forward to meeting our future Terry Scholars!
