RCA Ceramics and Glass

A lot of glaze testing going on this term @rcaceramicsandglass. Some successes and many learnings. Continuing to explore texture, landscape, and tactility. Do you have a favorite?
High fired press-moulded stoneware. A couple coloredporcelain slip casts. Building on base glazes from @louisataylorceramics with various colorants. Excited to see where this goes.

🚨Life/Studio Update🚨 Last week I moved to London and next week I start an MA in Ceramics and Glass with @rcaceramicsandglass
•
I’m so so excited for this opportunity and am very proud and grateful to have the support of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s International Merit Scholarship
•
The images in this post are a majority of the portfolio I applied with. There was also a written description of each project that accompanied the images.
•
1/2: A potato peeler I made during my undergraduate industrial design course. Ergonomics were crucial for this project
3/4: Some glaze experiments and the resulting vase series that was born out of that
5-7: Two purple pear vases made at @sfclayhouse and one made at a Tortus workshop in Copenhagen
8/9: This was a drawing machine made during my undergraduate degree. It was my first venture into BCI (brain-computer interfaces) Brainwaves were measured using a set of wet electrodes and a Neurosky/Arduino script. The correct wavelength would translate into movement of the marble through sand, reminiscent of the zen gardens I used at Montessori school

Ceramic landscapes merge digital fabrication and handcraft, revealing the evolving dialogue between technology, memory, and material touch.
The Invisible Made Visible at @londoncraftweek explores the hidden forces that shape making — from unseen labour and material transformation to the quiet gestures embedded in process. Bringing together practices across jewellery, ceramics, sculpture, installation, furniture, wearable works, glass, textile and embroidery, the exhibition reveals what often remains unnoticed: the time, care and experimentation behind each piece, highlighting the stories and processes that usually remain invisible.

RYAN TEPPER @tepper_wares

More testing! Tried casting these forms in colored porcelain slip to mixed success. Unsure if I’ll continue down this path but happy to have these tiles! They currently live on our dining table as tea light holders (last slide)

After slip casting, it’s time to fettle! Although time consuming, I am learning to love this part of the process. It’s a great time to listen to some music and hyperfocus on the details ✨
Approaching halfway through the first term @rcaceramicsandglass! I’ve spent the last 3 weeks trying something new, learning everything I can about plaster mold making and slip casting.
I’ve made two molds so far; here’s a little start to finish on the slip casting process for one of them. Really looking forward to seeing where this project goes!

After I glaze my vases, I like to sponge off all the glaze on the rims and then go back over with a clear glaze. On this porcelain vase it will end up being a glossy white line that separates the inside and outside
