Tala Nassar - تالا نصار

We’re honored to have contributed exhibition design for the @NationalPavilionUAE, presenting “Washwasha” in the 61st International Art Exhibition of @LaBiennale di Venezia 2026. Curated by @BanaKattan and @talanassar2, “Washwasha” brings together six artists whose practices contemplate contemporary soundscapes in the UAE, shaped by migration, transience and long-term ties to the land. A phonetic transliteration of the Arabic word for ‘whispering,’ “Washwasha” suggests sound at the threshold of audibility—a starting point for exploring themes of memory, movement, and rapid transformation. From oral storytelling to poetry circles and locally initiated broadcasting efforts, sound has long functioned as a platform for collective self-representation. “Washwasha” situates contemporary artistic practices within this continuum of transmission and exchange.
B-KD’s design provides a journey through the pavilion that traces the progression of sound through multiple modes—from oral histories to movement, migration, and technology. Organizing the exhibition as a sequence of chambers that respond directly to the acoustic signature of the space’s materiality and architecture, visitors are led from zones of close listening to areas consumed by noise and sonic overlap.
On view at the Arsenale through November 22, 2026.

“Washwasha” is now open at the @nationalpavilionuae at the Biennale Arte 2026! The exhibition features newly commissioned and existing works by Mays Albaik, Jawad Al Malhi, Farah Al Qasimi, Alaa Edris, Lamya Gargash, and Taus Makhacheva. The exhibition is curated by the incredible @banakattan and I’ve had the privilege of serving as her assistant curator.
I wish I could have captured the entire village it took to bring this exhibition together. I am forever grateful to everyone who made it possible.

“Symbiotic: Hyperreal” is officially open to the public at The NYUAD Project Space! Thank you to artists Talal Al Najjar and Ziad Al Najjar for trusting me to curate their works in their first ever duo show.
This exhibition is also a bittersweet moment for me as it marks my last project at The NYUAD Art Gallery before heading off to grad school. I’m so grateful to have been able to work with and learn from the most amazing team that anyone could ask for (past and present!!).

Mark your calendars for Thursday, June 1 at 5:30 PM for the opening of 'Symbiotic: Hyperreal' at The NYUAD Project Space. This show is curated by our Associate Manager of Curatorial Projects, Tala Nassar.
This exhibition marks the first duo show for artists and brothers Talal Al Najjar and Ziad Al Najjar, who maintain a distinct individual practice, but developed in close proximity to one another. The resulting exhibition explores their relationship to their surroundings, particularly Dubai, addressing several dualities: that of two brothers, that of the two cultures in their family of origin, and that of life in the UAE, with its attendant tension between tradition and modernity. The artists emulate this experience of dualities by applying ancient motifs from various cultures to a contemporary context.
