What a magical opening night
Celebrating our 50th Graduate Showcase and what a way to mark it surrounded by so many familiar faces. Past staff, past students… one of the best things about this place is that no matter how long you’ve been away, you can always come back and feel part of it again. That sense of community hasn’t changed in 50 years, and you could really feel it on the night. So many stories, memories, and moments shared from studying Graphic Design in Athlone. @tus_athlone
Huge congratulations to all of our graduates.
From those early, sometimes quiet beginnings to the confident designers you are today, what a journey. The exhibition is full of incredible work, the team are so proud of each of you.
A very special moment welcoming back our own graduate, Táine King, who officially opened the show. Táine has built an amazing career in the film industry, working as an Art Director with Ridley Scott on House of Gucci and Napoleon.
Her opening speech was incredibly inspiring sharing how her time in Athlone gave her the foundation, confidence, and mindset to build her career. A great reminder to our students that everything they’ve learned here will carry them forward.
And this is just the beginning…
Last night marked the start of our 50th celebrations, keep an eye on socials for what’s coming next 👀
Big thanks to our Year 2 student @mostafakrm for capturing the night, and to the Music students for the atmosphere 🎶

Opening Address - Tàine King
We are incredibly proud to welcome one of our own graduates, Táine King, an acclaimed Art Director, who will officially open this year’s exhibition. Her return is a powerful reflection of the strength of our creative community and the lasting impact our graduates continue to have across the design and creative industries.
When Táine is not developing her own visual work, she works as an Art Director within the film industry, most recently assisting with Ridley Scott on major productions including House of Gucci and Napoleon.
In what has been an exceptional week, Táine has also received multiple awards for her film Molly the Robot, @mollyandtherobotfilm further highlighting her talent, vision, and continued success on an international stage.
We are honoured to have her back with us to celebrate and open our 50th Grad Show this Friday.

I am still completely overwhelmed and full of gratitude to share that Molly and the Robot won the Audience Award at the Dublin International Film Festival @dublinfilmfestival
To know that audiences connected with this quiet, non-verbal story about grief, connection and hope means more to me than I can put into words.
This film was made on a windy hill in Monaghan with the most extraordinary cast and crew, who believed in this story and gave it everything. We battled the elements, changing weather, and a tight schedule, but everyone showed up with passion, creativity and heart to bring this world to life.
I want to say a huge thank you to Gráinne Humphreys, @grainnehumphreys @peggy.machale and @whosaisha , and the entire team at the Dublin International Film Festival for championing the film and giving it such a special platform.
A very special thank you also to @creativemonaghan @monaghan_coco & @combilift_official for their belief in the project and their continued support of artists and filmmakers from the county. That support makes films like this possible.
I am so proud of what we created together. This award belongs to every single person who helped bring Molly and the Robot to life. @mollyandtherobotfilm

Our extraordinary Costume Designer @jay_caraher Jacinta Caraher ✨ @purplepeachdesign
I gave Jacinta fragments Shackleton in the Arctic, 19th-century explorers, a touch of Blade Runner, the Galway shawl, Mad Max, rural Ireland.
She turned those fragments into a living, breathing world.
The Suiter carries the weight of survival layered like an explorer at the edge of the earth. Every texture feels earned.
Molly stands grounded in Irish tradition, but fierce and independent a girl of the land, practical, strong, enduring.
@katemurphytextiles Kate’s hand-knitted hood holds the quiet intimacy of craft every stitch telling its own story.
And Jacinta didn’t stop there she took on the robot suit itself, shaping it into something that felt both mechanical and human.
We were honoured to weave in local design too — @lizchristy.handwoveninireland crios belts and @loubrennandesign rich, vibrant scarf ,threads of Ireland stitched into the future.

Jacinta, you didn’t just design costumes.
You built mythology.
So grateful for your instinct, your craftsmanship, and the heart you poured into every frame. 🤍

I gave Jacinta fragments Shackleton in the Arctic, 19th-century explorers, a touch of Blade Runner, the Galway shawl, Mad Max, rural Ireland.
She turned those fragments into a living, breathing world.

I’m incredibly honoured to share that I’ve been nominated for a Discovery Award at @dublinfilmfestival for directing Molly & The Robot 🤍 @mollyandtherobotfilm
Over the last five years, my path as a filmmaker has been anything but straightforward. There were moments when I wasn’t sure I’d get here at all. This film was especially challenging to make, tough conditions, constant problem-solving, and real moments of doubt, but it was carried by the people around me.
I truly wouldn’t be at this point without @tormeycarol , my DOP, whose belief and artistry kept the vision alive; @foul_mouth_jo Heffernan, my producer, whose steadiness and determination grounded the whole process; my family and friends, who have supported me in ways big and small; the whole film industry and the incredible crew I get to work with daily and the wider local community around me, especially @creativemonaghan, who continue to champion local voices and storytelling and for @combilift_official a local enterprise for coming on board and financially supporting us and one of the reasons the film actually got made.
This nomination doesn’t feel like a solo achievement. It feels like a reflection of what’s possible when you’re held, encouraged, and believed in by others. Filmmaking can feel like a lonely road at times and it is a lonely road but moments like this remind me that it’s really about the people you surround yourself with and I am so grateful to have you all around me.
Thank you all so so much, and I’m carrying this nomination with all of you in mind.

If you didn’t catch my interview about @thewildesistersshortfilm here it is in full and I have to say sitting on the Ireland AM sofa felt like such a full circle moment. I’ve worked in this industry for years, building worlds for other directors, learning from incredible crews, and quietly hoping for the day I’d get to share a story of my own. To sit there as a director, speaking about a film I poured my whole heart into, meant more than I can say.
The Wilde Sisters was made with pure determination, passion, and the unbelievable talent of a cast and crew who believed in bringing Emily and Mary’s hidden story back to life but also believed in me. We set women on fire, built purgatory from scraps, stitched period costumes with no budget and somehow this little film found its way to Galway, New York, Chicago, DIFF… and winning awards and now it’s officially submitted for the @iftaacademy
Whatever happens, I’m proud beyond words. And I hope the hard work, artistry and soul of this cast and crew will be recognised with a nomination, they truly deserve it.
Thank you to Ireland AM for giving space to this story, to everyone who’s supported the film, and to those who’ve reached out to say the sisters moved them.
I love directing with every part of me. I can’t wait to keep building worlds, telling stories that honour forgotten women, and creating films on a scale I once only dreamed of. Thank you everyone for your support and lovely messages, its meant alot. @dublinfilmfestival @monaghan_coco @creativemonaghan
