Tacet Eye
Tacet Eye is an educational community of photographers, artists and journalists focusing on long form and interdisciplinary storytelling.

“I love thatwe were really encouraged to get weird, mess up, experiment, fail and discover. I learned so much about how to use my voice through the images that we made, rather than just showing what I see; rebuilding our visual language with emphasis on the questions, rather than answers.”
“The poetry scared the shit out of me - but also really pushed me.”
^^ A few reflections from the 2023 @tacet.eye core workshop cohort <3
We couldn’t be prouder of this group and their trajectories working through the complexities, struggles and particular difficulties that arise from this kind of work - and pushing each other further into the personal, poetic, and non-traditional ways of working - into new ways of seeing and community building.
✨✨✨See some of the incredible personal work that has resulted ✨✨✨

We once again come back together to fight off the swirlies 💫💫💫 Dive deep into poetics, and process—unraveling, reimagining, tomfoolery and getting weird together.
Registration is now open for this year’s Tacet Eye Core workshop—November 20-22, 2026.

Much of our community of practice and learning comes from a documentary background, but is seeking to challenge inherent power dynamics within the documentary form, and to upend their own creative process while together letting go and moving towards new ways of working.
Our approach combines non-traditional resources; drawing from music, poetry, literature, film, socially engaged art, painting and critical theory to help inform how we craft visual narratives.
The priority deadline is May 15, 2026, with rolling admissions accepted through July 15 or until filled. Watch this space to learn more about our upcoming core workshop and see projects from our incredible community.

Tacet Eye visual conversation no. 2:
@hectr_franco & @megan_lofting
We are excited to share pieces of unfolding @tacet.eye visual conversations between photographers in our community of practice and learning. Responding to each other’s photographs over time as a means of visual letter writing, improvisation and connection.

Closing the year with a love letter to community:
It’s hard to put into words how grateful we are for every conversation, laugh, and creative act shared with this growing community of practice and learning. We recently spent time recharging together in Mexico’s Baja. California Sur. When we started five years ago we really only had two goals; to support artists and photojournalists through the terrifying journey that is creating long-form work and to cultivate mutual support that would extend offline into the real world.
To finally gather in-person, in community with some of our amazing @tacet.eye workshop alumni so lovingly supported by the Cerritos, Pescadero and Todos Santos artist community felt like the culmination of our work and a lived dream. This would not have been possible without the collaboration and support of @dominicbracco ,and his partners at the stunning @uvasyhojas . And the kindness, humor and generosity of incredibly talented friends, @cesar_rodriguezb , @gracestearns3 @emilykpederson . We are also thankful to @max.uranga for sharing his knowledge of Baja’s inspiring intercultural art/artists past and present. Community = Possibility. Cheers to the magic moments shared in community this year and beyond.
✨✨✨
abrazos,
Brian, sarah & jenny

What is a feeling that you’ve been wanting to capture in your work, that you feel unable to? What’s beneath the surface? What is the question behind the answer? Work created on assignment during this past weekend’s Tacet Eye Core Workshop. We dove into the strange, the unknown, and the familiar - living the questions, together.
All the damn love and gratitude to this incredible group of artists and growing community - so sappy so tender- so much openness and vulnerability
Instructors @sarahblesener @jj.stratton and @brianlfrank with guest speaker @camille.lenain
Watch this space for more work and much more getting weird to come ✨✨✨

when we begin, we strive for clarity
the clean line, balanced light.
somewhere along the way, we lose it
mirrors break, hearts wrinkle, horizons soften.
letting go, we seek a different kind of knowing something felt rather than seen.
can we let the mystery be?
trust the spaces between notes,
the moments of strangeness in a song
Images honoring the unresolved,
the magic in the mundane

the thing I came for:
the wreck and not the story of the wreck
the thing itself and not the myth
the drowned face always staring

Participant work from To Bind Anew: Archival Strategies for Reflection & Discovery
Time shared not searching for answers in the archive-but the quiet motions-the reaching, trying and fumbling toward the thing.
With appreciation to all who participated in Saturday’s workshop led by @jj.stratton @gokateshoot @sarahblesener and Morgan Greenwald

“Together, we will make meaning, or we’ll keep trying — again and again and again.”
Diana Taylor
Grateful for everyone who participated in yesterday’s workshop led by @sarahblesener , @jj.stratton , @gokateshoot and Morgan Greenwald held @goldenkinstudio —together we built a beautiful and supportive container to dive into personal and communal archives. We cracked open boxes, ephemera and photo albums—tearing, foraging, painting, mending, reworking and reimagining together again and again and again.

“Together, we will make meaning, or we’ll keep trying — again and again and again.”

Color studies no. 1 | on Blue
“I have walked behind the sky.
For what are you seeking?
The fathomless blue of Bliss.
To be an astronaut of the void, leave the comfortable house that imprisons you with reassurance. Remember, to be going and to have are not eternal - fight the fear that engenders the beginning, the middle and the end.
For Blue there are no boundaries or solutions.”
— Derek Jarman, Chroma: A Book of Color
Participatory responses from an Enter/Exit dream prompt: Choose a color that has been affecting you lately. Dress yourself in it - What does it make you feel? Is it attached to any memories? Dreams? Senses?
