Novena entrega: Marina Kifferstein

A new release of the Distat archive is now live, featuring a solo violin concert by American performer Marina Kifferstein. The program is centered on Taylor Brook’s Vocalise, a work that translates structural principles of Hindustani music into a contemporary language through a melodic descent that inverts the traditional architecture of that genre. The release also features an improvisation set by Kifferstein, whose sonic narrative unfolds based on the meter and imagery of Kevin Nance's poetry, establishing a dialogue between predetermined composition and instant creation guided by literary frameworks.
Ninth release: Marina Kifferstein
Performers: @sourkiff and @noisycellist
Composers: Taylor Brook * Marina Kifferstein

We look forward to share "In the presence of absence" an evening length concert of new music on March 22nd, at 7:30pm at Dimmena Center.
This concert consists of three newly composed solo works:
"How quiet—at the bottom of the lake, peaks of clouds" for solo violin, performed by Marina Kifferstein
"Zinnia" for solo percussion, performed by Ellery Trafford
"Stillness—seeping" for solo electric guitar, performed by Alec Galdfarb
These three works are interconnected by three fixed-media electronic pieces that weave together the haunting recitations of poems by the renowned Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish. His words, resonating with themes of loss, longing, and hope, form the emotional backbone of the evening, grounding each piece in a shared reflection on grief and mourning.
The concert will run for approximately 75 minutes, uninterrupted, creating a seamless flow between these pieces. The event aims to create a space for collective mourning in the face of our shared loss.
Event Details:
Date: March 22
Time: 7:30 PM
Location: DiMenna Center, Cary Hall

🔸The Rhythm Method is a New York-based ensemble of four composer-performers, which strives to reimagine the string quartet in a contemporary, feminist context:
🎙️"... We believe that an intersectional feminist approach to our work means fostering equity through the amplification of marginalized voices. Our programming and collaborative efforts seek to highlight artistry that represents the beautiful spectrum of gender, race, sexuality, age, ability, and all other lines of identity..."
📑 The quartet tours regularly both in the US and abroad, and has performed internationally in France, Austria, and Switzerland.
The Rhythm Method has been featured at the Lucerne Festival Forward, on the String Orchestra of Brooklyn’s String Theories Festival, MATA Festival, Music Mondays, TriBeCa New Music, and the Austrian Cultural Forum’s Moving Sounds Festival.
The quartet seeks to nurture ongoing relationships, cultivating multifaceted creativity with universities and schools all around the world.
