We're so elated to be collaborating with @doyeonmusic DoYeon Kim (who performed a riveting solo set on Broad Statements 2024) on a large-scale new piece called 'Embrace of the Ethereal' for gayageum, string quartet, and voices, commissioned by NYSCA. Our set with DoYeon will feature a preview of that piece in advance of its 2027 premiere. Also, check out the recent NYTimes feature on DoYeon and her utter brilliance and badassery!

DoYeon Kim (b. 1991, Seoul) is an internationally acclaimed artist known for introducing the gayageum, an ancient Korean zither, into contemporary music. She channels history, literature, and the evolving human spirit into a musical language entirely her own, expressed through original compositions, powerful solo performances, and collaborations worldwide. The first gayageum player admitted to the master’s programs at New England Conservatory and the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, Kim has been nominated for a Korean Grammy Award (2018), received the Van Lier Fellowship (2023), and was a Next Jazz Legacy awardee (2025). In May 2026, she released her debut album, Wellspring the TAO Forms label. She has served on the faculties of NEC and The New School and leads projects ranging from solo concerts to intercontinental collaborations and ensembles including ACC X Music Festival and the Gyeonggi Sinawi Orchestra. Her collaborators include Mark Dresser, Kris Davis, Tyshawn Sorey, Anna Webber, and Peter Evans.

Brooklyn-based horn player and performer Nicolee Kuester enjoys splitting her time between experimental sounds and music from the chamber and orchestral canon. Kayla will be performing with Endea Owens. Her set takes a multidisciplinary approach to contemporary chamber music, bridging classical, jazz, folk, and roots traditions. Her ensemble grew out of her desire to return to a musical world where genre boundaries were fluid rather than fixed.

Kayla Williams is a dynamic violist celebrated for her warm tone, versatile collaborations across genres, and vibrant stage presence. Originally from Florida, she began playing violin at the age of four before discovering her true passion—the viola—at ten. In 2018, she made her concerto debut performing Bartók’s Viola Concerto as the winner of the Lynn Conservatory Concerto Competition. Kayla earned her Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance from the Lynn Conservatory of Music in Boca Raton, Florida, and her Master of Music from The Juilliard School in New York City. She was a recipient of the Juilliard Career Advancement Fellowship from 2021 to 2023.

Through minimalist arrangements and nuanced vocal expression, she centers storytelling and emotional connection, inviting listeners into reflective and deeply personal musical spaces.

In addition to her performance work, Luna is actively engaged in community-centered arts and music initiatives. She collaborates with organizations and educational programs that use music as a tool for cultural exchange, learning, and connection across generations.

We're getting our absolute dream team together to perform the double quartet premiere of Paul Pinto's OCTET on April 21 at Roulette (presented in partnership with CultureHub) with Bergamot Quartet, alongside a solo performance by the indefatigably awesome Paul Pinto, who'll perform River Songs, MANO A MANO, and Estebanico, accompanied by strings.

For those of you who saw our quartet+video performances in December, just think: twice as many quartets, twice as many gloves, twice as many pencils, endless possibilities. For those who didn't make it, now's your chance! This is a really mind-bending, beautiful, and funny piece, and it's been a joyful journey putting it together with these supremely talented and creative collaborators.

For our non-NYC friends or folks who can't get out of the house that evening, Roulette livestreams all their concerts, so you can watch on their website!

Tuesday, April 21 // 8pm (doors at 7pm)
Roulette // 509 Atlantic Avenue
Tickets: $25 advance / $30 doors / $20 student/senior
Tickets, livestream link, and more info at link in bio!

When we began work on the SEMMELWEIS album, we knew we wanted the song-cycle to live separately from the staged opera. We began re-arranging each of the songs to create an immersive album that could stand on its own. I spent several months rewriting songs and tweaking productions in both my home studio and @thehitfactorynyc alongside the incredible @maximilienhein

Here are a few moments from the many tracking sessions over the years  of creating SEMMELWEIS.

Pre-order is available now for SEMMELWEIS, out April 17th on Sono Luminus.
