“The file is corrupt and cannot be opened”
Sina Robering for Landesgartenschau Thüringen 2026

Room installation made with pastel, acrylic, and charcoal on canvas, PU foam, plastic, varnish, metal, chalk, and stickers (2026)

Posters hang on the walls, and a computer tower is covered with free stickers from brochures and magazines. Many teenagers used to decorate their rooms this way, often as a first way of showing their own personality and interests. Even after people move out, traces of these rooms remain behind.

The installation takes up these leftovers and imagines a different reality in which organic and digital elements have merged together. Inside the space, a strange form appears that looks like an unknown living creature. At the same time, the work preserves the visual style and media aesthetics of the early 2000s like a time capsule.

still on show until October 11th 2026.

LOVE IN TIMES OF BUREAUCRACY

Introducing the artists:

SINA ROBERING
@sinarobering

Sina Robering (born 2000 in Münster, lives and works in Weimar) has been studying Fine Art at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar @klassedahlem since 2021. In her sculptural works, she explores processes of transformation between physical and non-physical materials, as well as between the organic and the artificial, the living and the inanimate. Her focus is on altered conditions that elude conscious control.

‘Persistence of BACKBONE‘ is the continuation of an earlier sculpture entitled ‘BACKBONE‘, adapted to an empty office in the administration building at Amalienstrasse 13. Like the mold that makes this office in need of renovation and currently unusable for daily work, the art work started growing and spreading throughout the space. It addresses how structures, both material and immaterial, persist under changing conditions and adapt to new circumstances. Like a tree or a growing plant organism, the installation stretches between the ceiling, walls, and floor of the office space. The title, however, suggests that it is the sculpture itself that gives stability to its surroundings. Similarly, the university can also be understood as a “heterogeneous organism” whose administration, as its backbone, ensures the ongoing operation of teaching and research, even if this usually takes place quietly behind closed office doors.

Persistence of BACKBONE, 2025
