Following recent updates to the @bifa_film eligibility rules, Short of the Week has officially been recognised as one of just nine online channels qualifying filmmakers for the BIFA Best British Short Film award.
It’s a major milestone for S/W - and a meaningful step forward for online film platforms more broadly. At a time when few major awards bodies recognise digital exhibition as an official pathway to awards consideration, this acknowledgement reflects the growing influence of curated online spaces in discovering and championing emerging filmmakers alongside the traditional festival circuit.
Over the past two decades, many S/W filmmakers have gone on to receive recognition from the BIFA's - with S/W now officially recognised as a qualifying channel, the next winner might already be on our site.

"The creature at the film’s center, an otherworldly mollusk named Henrietta, was a fully cable-driven puppet, operated through holes cut in the tables on set."
Casey’s attempted surprise dinner date gets derailed when Taylor, her girlfriend, reveals she has brought home a strange, wounded creature she intends to nurse back to health.

"The film blends tones and genres in a way that feels both conceptually inventive and emotionally recognisable, managing that rare feat of being formally distinctive and thematically grounded. Although its premise could easily have drifted into something alienating or overly surreal, the film instead maintains a surprising emotional realism beneath its absurd surface." - S/W Curator, @_robmunday

"The concept of masculinity was very much tied to the act of procreation. So I wanted to explore that both within myself and within the film."
Tony and Lindsay are looking for a permanent solution to their family's fertility, but for Tony, the simple procedure poses a threat to his fragile masculinity.

Cannes is one of cinema’s most hallowed stages - a Palme d’Or can cement a legendary career or launch an extraordinary new one.
As the festival begins this week, thousands of shorts will screen across the market, sidebars, and satellite sections - but the crown jewel remains the ultra-exclusive Official Selection, where one filmmaker leaves with the Short Film Palme d’Or.
To celebrate, we’ve gathered every Short Film Palme d’Or winner of the 21st century into a Shortverse playlist - with 14 of the 25 films available to stream free online.

"I remember standing in the wreckage of my own plans and having to quietly ask what I was actually living for. Windy Day takes that solitary reckoning and makes it communal. It holds your gaze and says: this is what it means to be alive at the mercy of forces you never chose – terrifying, and yet it’s the only story we have." - S/W Curator
