Introducing the team behind MEAT

Sound design and mixing in horror or thrillers is such a unique experience because you’re doing more than adding sound effects, you’re directly trying to control emotions that the audience is feeling. MEAT takes that a step further and lets us dig into perspective swapping, as well as spatially adapting the mix to feel different. At times that’s narrow and claustrophobic feeling, and at others its big and dramatic.

It’s always a pleasure working with Mike on films because he really understands the importance that the sound design plays in the film. From how thrilling, and on the edge his films make us feel, it’s definitely clear they shine in the Sound department.

Fun fact: Tyrelle built his studio from the ground up out of an old decommissioned restaurant walk in freezer and a new studio build is underway, this time not built from freezer.

Meet Ty, the sonic architect who sculpts soundscapes with precision. 🎧✨

His work transcends the ordinary, surprising us with ingenious ideas that breathe life into our projects. Ty’s home studio—an unconventional decommissioned restaurant freezer—is a testament to his audacious creativity. 🧊 🎶 But it’s his relentless work ethic, burning the midnight oil to address every minute detail, that truly sets him apart.

Born and raised in SW Washington, Ty studied film sound editing and mixing at La Sierra University near LA in Riverside CA. After returning back to his home and building his studio, Ty went full time into post audio for film and created “Tyrelle Sound”. This post audio business connects him with filmmakers to help stories get told that otherwise wouldn’t have a great shot at professional sound mixing/editing.

When he’s not in the studio mixing or sound designing, Ty is playing Golf, going on hikes, and playing board games with friends. He is a master of work/life balance and that is something we all admire about him.

I loved working with Ty because of his amazing attitude. No matter how small the detail he always came in running with every note, helping polish the film beyond our expectations. Our post process on “Ugly Sweater” was seamless, and Ty was truly someone I could trust to hand off an overwhelming large and complex film project file to and get back packaged results that would impress anyone.
