At our London hub we were joined by Sam Ivin @sam_ivin again for a photography and collage workshop!

Each person was assigned a colour at random and introduced to the basic rule of thirds. We went out on a photography walk to take 10 pictures of that colour.

After, we headed back to choose our best pictures, print them and frame them, decorating the frame with quotes and drawings.

It was exciting to develop our photography skills and learn new creative techniques for documenting our stories!

I’m one of 22 photographers commissioned by @openeyegallery to document 6 venues responses to the @futureartscentres #ourfreedomthenandnow programme. Each venue invited communities to create artwork on what freedom means to us today, marking 80 years since 1945.

Lovely working with so many thoughtful, creative folk. The photos are now touring across 18 of the venues and on display at @southbankcentreExciting to see so many talented women photographers on display too

New artwork created by young carers in Surrey is on display at @staineslibrary to mark #youngcarersactionday

Documentary photographer Sam Ivin worked with young carers in Shepperton over six weeks. For this display at Staines Library they chose their favourite image that they’d taken, or decorated a printed photo of their choice. The results are bold, colourful images featuring abstract pink and white shapes, family photos and pets.

Supported by @spelthorneboroughcouncil and @action_for_carers_surrey

We loved having @sam_ivin come and share his photography work with us in Stoke!

We recently shared an Artist Spotlight on Sam’s portrait series ‘Settling’, telling the stories of migration from around the world to Stoke-on-Trent.

At our workshop, the group got involved in a collage activity, exploring identity and personal journeys through provoking images.

Thank you Sam for coming and sharing your work with us!

Big thank you to everyone who braved the stormy weather Friday evening to @staffsfineart for the opening of Settling 2.0. Lots of great conversations had and yummy Indian food eaten. Huge thank to @frankenbergrebecca from @bartsstoke for all your support with the project. (And for your drill work @danielfwiggins). And of course the participants; who without it wouldn’t be possible! On until 8th January 2026 👀👤🖼️📷

"I'm so grateful for the opportunity to revisit Settling and create a few more portraits. I hope audiences' enjoy looking at people's pictures and learning about their fascinating stories as much as I have. The communities that exist here are very special."

Opening at Henrion Gallery, @uniofstaffs 5-7pm this Friday.

They'll be Indian food too 😋

Thank you to everyone involved with the display this month at @rugby_gallery and workshops at @dunchurchpark Some fantastic artwork made! #refugeeweek #simpleacts

Together collage image &Wings Portrait by Elham, other images by project participants and Sam Ivin

Photography, Play & Simple Acts
This project is a partnership between the Benn Partnership Centre, Signature Hotel
Group Dunchurch Park and Rugby Art Gallery and Museum, led by photographer
Sam Ivin. At Dunchurch Park in early 2025 individuals, families and young people
were given the opportunity to attend 6 creative photography workshops. Participants learnt basic photography skills, capturing colours, portraits, and macro (close up) photography. This display focuses on pictures made by the Young People, who regularly attended the sessions.

Another series of sessions will take place during Refugee Week, 16th-22nd June,
inspired by Simple Acts, “Simple Acts are everyday actions we can all do to stand
with refugees and make new connections in our communities.”. These sessions will
focus on capturing colour, cyanotypes (creating blue toned prints with sunlight) and embellishing photo prints. The artwork on display at Rugby Art Gallery & Museum is from a selection made during these sessions.
