My grandfather MASATO SAKATNI served in the US army during WWII and was given honorable discharge due to his brother also serving in the Japanese army and the hostile racism towards Japanese Americans at the time.

After he returned home Executive Order 9066 in 1942 forced him to Leave Los Angeles, where he was born, and move to Heart Mountain WY until he was released in 1945. He never expressed animosity regarding the situation from what I remember and I believe considered it doing his part.

I wish I got to have more conversation with him about this history and hear his story but I wasn’t mature enough to realize how special he was. I live on his couch for a year after moving to LA to pressure a career in Film.

I love working with ideas that happen in 24 frames. @evan_naka designed this setup and @bubbas_la figured out the science. For the specular reflections, I used a very large soft source to highlight the bottle and liquid and then we cut a small section out and put a hard source in a little window of the soft source. We used a pneumatic launcher directly under the glass that was timed with a few frame after the start of the sisu c20 move

Designed in @unrealengine, the project took many months. It was a fun process to discover a new way to create. The learning curve is steep but many of the concepts we use on set translate well while lighting in Unreal. @Bryansmaller colored the files by converting the linear log to a log-c space then mixed various LUTs to find something that was working. We also added grain then de noised and again re added grain to help take the digital edge off. If any of my friends are interesting in our workflow hit me up. I feel like we’re going to see a lot more of this process as the roll of DP evolves. #keepers

@Alexprice and @steventaylor collaborated with @miramax to make film interpretation of a complex digital identity security concept.

Designed in @unrealengine, the project took many months. It was a fun process to discover a new way to create. The learning curve is steep but many of the concepts we use on set translate well while lighting in Unreal. @Bryansmaller colored the files by converting the linear log to a log-c space then mixed various LUTs to find something that was working. We also added grain then de noised and again re added grain to help take the digital edge off. If any of my friends are interesting in our workflow hit me up. I feel like we’re going to see a lot more of this process as the roll of DP evolves. #keepers
