On the 71st edition of Your Favorite DJβs Favorite DJ, I got to kick it with poet and African music enthusiast @repeatbeatpoet aka @mr.loose.egusi. The Repeat Beat Poet shared how he began writing poetry on his first trip to New York at the age of eight, the difference between performing as a solo act Γ la DJing and poetry as opposed to being a part of an ensemble and why itβs important to scrutinize artistsβ and their work in order to hold them to a higher standard. Mr. Loose Egusi then shared a mix he played at the @steamdown jam chock full of funk and soul from all across the diaspora.

CHA! Back with another night of African & afro-diasporic dance music for you at the iconic BBE Store in London. In my mind, African musicking is the perfect portal and platform for us to understand, deconstruct, and remake the world. Musciking is the collect act of music, a verb encompassing everything it takes to make music happen - not just the songwriters and musicians, but the venues, the promoters, the labels, the pressing plants, the distributors and most importantly YOU - the audience. When we come together to share attention and INTENTION, we can remodel how we move as a single unit made up of different people, and that is what my dream dancefloor looks like. Come co-create something special as the world whirls out of control, weβll be spinning records, embodying freedoms, and stomping down Babylon. Keep it Loose Egusi ππͺ©
Itβs an all-vinyl affair, itβs FREE, and 2 heavyweight selectors in tow, @stooty_mama of the Grand Funk fundraisers and @bridgeteke repping @hotelzamara so donβt delay, get your ticket today! ποΈ tickets via RESIDENT ADVISORποΈ

POW! @theroebuckse1 is tonight β¦. then in July we have headliners Julie Cheung @julieecheung and The Repeat Beat Poet @repeatbeatpoet (pictured). Peter deGraft-Johnson is a queer, neurodivergent, British-born Ghanaian writer, and DJ working with poetry, music, and histories from Black & Pan-African perspectives. As comfortable in the cadence of charismatic preachers as the bounce of rappers, heβs performed across the UK, Europe, and West Africa, and his debut pamphlet, A Testament To Life & Death was released in 2022, being sold and taught across 4 continents. He has been featured by Amnesty International, the UN at COP 26 and anthologised by Penguin. Peter has been a poet-in-residence at the Library Of Africa & The African Diaspora in Accra and for BBC 6Music, alongside appearing at festivals like We Out Here, WOMAD, and consecutive years at Love Supreme, collaborating with Grammy award-winning jazz musicians including Thundercat and Blue Lab Beats. Peter also hosts the British Podcast Award nominated Lunar Poetry Podcast, and the poetry-vinyl listening series Words On Wax.

Man liiiiiiike @joshuaidehen , the big boss, purveyor of finest bars and hardcore hope, my favourite 9ja uncle in this poetry game, and my good friend. Iβm still buzzing from this SOLD OUT KOKO show, and Iβll be forever lifted by Joshuaβs words, whether on wax, on the page, in vids & clips, or live. If you need a boost; run up his album βI Know Youβre Hurting, Everyone Is Hurting, Everyone Is Trying, You Have Got To Tryβ (Iβm the voice on track 2 - It Wonβt Always Be Like Thisβ) and catch him at a festival in summer or on his next tour in November.
And always remember, rhythm is a weapon βπΎ
