I met Vinthya not even a year ago and we realised we shared a lot in common - our values, heritage, a love of music in prestigious concert halls and grotty concrete bunkers, and the desire to make things.
We had our first meal together in Sri Lanka and it was served by a robot (slide #3), en route to the Mallung x SpaceEka artist residency last September, collaborating with all the talented artists in residence - notably with @horns_with_nuwan on the conch, a true one-of-one.
From there, ‘Monkey’ was born- Vinthya’s debut release as an artist, a beautiful piece of music, and a perfect first output on Mallung - 🗣️OUT NOW ON BANDCAMP AND ALL STREAMING PLATFORMS 😎
Today I stand in awe of life’s coincidences…Vinthya and I were connected through my non-corporate friend at a corporate company (large up @debbie.________ ), and now we’re inextricably linked on this musical cultural spiritual odyssey of which there is no endpoint, only upwards creative spirals.
We’ve done a lot in 10 months and I owe so much of what Mallung is slowly becoming to her loving support, crazy talent and indomitable optimism. I’m so proud of you nangi! Happy release day 🤎

Intentions, Flourishing Light ✨
as part of Ile Ọkàn by @bisilanoha
Friday 20 March 2026 at @omvedgardens 🌱
With sounds by @rafington & @maxinepennn
This edition of Intentions unfolds at the Spring Equinox 🌸 a turning point in the solar year when day and night stand in equilibrium and the seasonal cycle turns toward renewal. Following winter’s inward phase, it signals the return of growth, movement, and light — a transition mirrored in human rhythms. Aligned with the New Moon 🌙, it offers a space to listen for what is ready to begin and to move into the coming season with intention and care.
Taking place as part of Bisila Noha’s Ile Ọkàn (House of the Soul) exhibition, the gathering unfolds in dialogue with themes of ritual, spirit, and our relationship to the natural world. Sound becomes a subtle thread connecting inner and outer landscapes, echoing the exhibition’s exploration of communion with land, memory, and the unseen.
This session is guided by Maxine Pennington, founder of Intentions, through a carefully curated DJ set designed to hold and support this shared space, joined by artist and Mallung Records founder Rachitha Seneviratne. Maxine is also the composer of the exhibition’s soundscape, extending the sonic environment of the gallery into this live experience.

Track: Vinthya - Monkey ft. Nuwan Gunawardhana
So giddy and excited to introduce MALLUNG to the world - a record label and nucleus for Sri Lankan artists. I was in Sri Lanka for 3 months at the start of this year, a transformative trip for me personally, but also a time where I learned about a creative scene spread throughout the island that felt truly of its own. I spent the 2nd half of my trip gallivanting around meeting artists and musicians on a beautiful kind of daisy chain of connections. The island is a village as they say.
The idea for Mallung has brewed tenderly in my heart for the past year as I’ve gotten to know these artists, culminating in a residency co-hosted with @spaceeka_artist_residency in September, on the fringes of the Sinharaja rainforest. The residency was an exploration of Sri Lankan rhythm and percussion, bringing together traditional drummers and contemporary artists - and documenting what emerged.
I’m all sorts of mixed emotions posting this. Amongst all the geopolitics, mass shootings, genocides and climate crises (most recently Cyclone Ditwah’s devastating impact in Sri Lanka) it feels hard to celebrate something like this at the moment - but also maybe the love and the art and the light is all we’ve got. Maybe it’s the only way through :’)
Keep it locked…first releases coming in January 🤎 @mallung.records

Mallung…a record label and nucleus for Sri Lankan artists, coming in January. Keep it locked brothers and sisters 🤎
Track: forthcoming from @vinthyaperinpanathan
Film: @shehanob
Logo: @leliaaluwihare

“Fruit at birth, in the garden, up the ladder, in the tuktuk. A fruit for every malady. Fruit as dessert, as an icebreaker. Fruit for all auspicious occasions, fruit for weddings, funerals, celebrations. Fruit in offering at the altars of worship…returning the finest gifts back to the gods, as if in acknowledgement to them that we see it.”
