In Ecuador, giant factory farms have been built on the traditional lands of the Indigenous Tsáchila without their consent and without assessing the environmental impact.

The Tsáchila have taken care of their land for generations. But giant meat company Pronaca has built huge pig and poultry farms without their permission. These factory farms are producing enough animal waste to fill 80 shipping containers every single day, polluting waterways and causing illness among the local people. All this is funded by @worldbank @ifc_org which is supposed to make life better in poorer countries.

This is one of the most important things that everyone needs to understand: it’s not JUST microplastics that are invading our bodies…it’s ALSO chemicals.

Think about it: microplastics have been found in follicular fluid—the liquid surrounding developing eggs in the ovary. They’ve been found in placentas, breast milk, blood, testicles, brains…the list goes on.

And where there are microplastics, there are chemicals.

Plastic is associated with up to 16,000 chemicals, and 4,000 of those have been found to be harmful. They can impact fertility, disrupt hormones, and lead to cancer and other chronic illnesses.

The more we understand the severity of this as a society, the more we can take action and speak up and demand change.

The truth is - plastic isn’t disappearing - It’s everywhere, and continues to cause serious damage.

Every year, about 11 million metric tons of plastic end up in the oceans - that's basically a garbage truck dumped into the water every single minute. On top of that, only 9% of plastic is recycled. The rest is incinerated, sitting in landfills, drifting through our waterways, and breaking down into microplastics that last hundreds or even thousands of years.

Use the action center in @futureswell bio to tell Congress to OPPOSE providing exemptions from the Endangered Species Act to big oil operations in the Gulf. If given, these companieswould operate without considering how oil drilling and operations impact endangered species, threatening populations of sea turtles, Rice Whales, and so many other precious marine life species.

We knew one thing making this film: nearly everyone that saw it would want to adopt a more “non-toxic” lifestyle.

But…that’s not always easy or straightforward. Because plastic and chemicals hide literally everywhere, and the marketplace is FULL of greenwashing. Also, many “non toxic” or “all natural” products simply don’t work AS well as their more toxic counterparts.

So, what brands or kinds of products can you trust? What products do you know will actually get the job done?

Our team found it was REALLY hard to answer that question.

But we wanted to anyways.

We wanted to give people a trusted place where they could go to find products that prioritize their health and work well.

So Louie Psihoyos, the co-director of “The Plastic Detox” partnered with @grovecollaborative collaborative to offer the public a one stop shop for clean products. Everything from body lotion to cooking pots to glass baby bottles and diapers.

He personally vetted AND tried out every product to make sure it was a great product. (Okay maybe he didn’t try on the diaper himself but you get the gist) If you see a deodorant in our shop…that means he tried out 30 other “all natural” deodorants, but only a select few worked super well. Additionally, all products in “The Unplastic Shop” get 4.5 or higher reviews online.

Not only are these products incredible, we found that each brand in our shop shared the same goal we did: they wanted to make the world a better place, with products that don’t harm humans, animals, OR our planet.

You will see many of the brands are small, more Mom and Pop. Every founder has an amazing story, one that resonated with our global mission.

We hope this labor of love for the last year resonates as much with our community!
